Say I have to constantly join a friend's game. Let's also say that wherever he goes, I go.
One problem. "The game you requested is currently full: Waiting for an opening."
It will be a long time before someone gathers the gall to leave on request. But I want to see and talk to my friend... now. Because I might join when he leaves, rendering the visit moot.
So I propose a solution to the problem in the form of "Join as Spectator".
Let's start with how the buttons to join are placed. Below "Play" is "Spectate", in case you want to go in as a Spectator on your own will.
Now, here is how the idea would actually work in the game.
The Spectators have no player limits because they are not Humanoid models that take up the workspace. They can't be loaded until they play, so they don't take up server space. The controls for camera movement work like in ROBLOX Studio, but you don't have the ability to upload the place to your roster. Other players will see your name in the "Spectators" leaderboard (You can switch between the Place's leaderboard and the "Spectators" leaderboard), and you can chat with both free-typing and the bubble. (Yes, even Guests can spectate.) You can be reported and banned as a spectator, so don't get any bright ideas. The Creator of a given Place cannot gain tickets if someone spectates their game, to prevent abuse.
During "The game you requested is currently full: Waiting for an opening", you will instead join the Place as a Spectator placed on a "Wait to Join" queue. An option in the menu will toggle whether or not you want to automatically join when someone leaves. If it is set to off, future visitors will not deter you from joining when the queue presents you the option to join.
Now for when you just want to Spectate on your own will and not because your friend told you to join their game. Click on "Spectate" below Play to just Spectate the Place, with the ability to join still intact. You are not in a queue until you hit "Play" during a Spectating session when the server is full, either in-game or out-of-game. This will serve as a "Try before you buy" feature for those not convinced that a game is fun to play and risk giving the creator a ticket. |

Sounds like a good idea. I will say this now;
How many players can spectate in one server? Hopefully not too many. |

I like the idea, but I don't like how spectators get the option to talk in game.
Suppose it's a server with a famous ROBLOXian. A crapton of people spectate. The chat gets flooded with all sorts of messages, making communication between people basically impossible.
To remedy the issue, I think private messaging between people in game would be alot better. You could implement a command like "/pm username" to see if it works out.

Support, but you should add a TL;DR summary. I DID read the whole thing, but others might bypass this one because they don't want to read the whole thing. It's a GREAT idea and it needs to be noticed. |

@Bvalere
Depends on the Place's popularity. Also depends on how many servers there are at the time of spectating. But it can't be something as ludicrous as 3000+. |

@ShaunJordon101
In addition to that, I was thinking of a "Chat Channel Switch" to go between the Spectator's channel and the Game's channel. You can only chat in your designated channel. (Players in the Game's Channel, Spectators in the Spectator's Channel).
Your addon was implemented. |

@ballofwhacks
TL:DR version: A spectate feature that can't be abused that moves around like ROBLOX Studio. I went into deep extents to cover almost (I'm certain people can point out loopholes, and I'll fix them) all the worries. |

Support, but the side effects? Noobs could go on there to spam '/' messages and what if there were a ton of people spectating? The speech may just be a little crowded. |
|
|
100% support, but if you try to join a game and it says, "server is full waiting for an opening..." Below it it could say, "do you want to spectate until space is open?" |

YES...
Just what we need.

Great idea, support.
But it'd be better if the spectating players couldn't chat. |

See "@ShaunJordon101" for concerns regarding chat.
@It would be better if they couldn't chat.

That's actually a good idea! Although, alot of people wouldn't spectate just because they really want to play their game xD
+1 support! |

support, but instead of making it to complicated, just have the camera (like the one you use in the edit mode of roblox studio) so you could move around and such, but not interfer with the game. |
