I've just started building, but I've been on here a while. It seems logical.
I support. |

Support, should throw lag away when making a game, very helpful mechanism that many game creators can use to make lag cry. |

This is an excellent idea. I support. |

Support, very useful
@everyone talking about no lag difference/yadayada
It only has to send one update packet for a mesh instead of hundreds for a cluster of bricks. |

Hate to break it to you, but this would do nothing. Meshes are basically objects made up of polygons, which will not reduce lag whatsoever. |

@samiret123 Explain to me why can you upload a super high polygonal mesh of a Lamborghini in 2006 without no lag? My point proven. Even though meshes may have a lot of faces, it is easier to Render a 32K face car that is probably 2KBS of info transferring to Roblox rather then having 1,000 bricks transferring with 2KBS for each brick. Its logic. |

People seem to be really confused here about what this actually means.
1000 part model ~= 1k polygonal figures drawn to create a mesh
In fact, it's more of 1000 part model >>> (far greater than) 1k polygon figures in terms of the computing space and processing required.
This suggestion DOES make a different on the amount of processing power needed to compute for the model. 1k parts does not simply include rendering 6k faces (assuming all parts to be rectangular with 6 faces), but also store and process data for all PROPERTIES, COLLISION PHYSICS, REPOSITIONING (if moving) of bricks. Not to mention that you'd need like 1k welds to keep all the bricks together if you wanted to move them. The physics engine of roblox must constantly calculate for these 1000 parts every frame.
Now if you converted these 1000 parts into a single mesh with ONE part. Physics? It obviously can handle 1 brick no problem. Rendering? If roblox can afford to render THOUSANDS of HATS then this mesh is nothing. By FAR, there would be tremendous decrease in stress for the physics engine. At the same time, the rendering part does not need to display 6k faces, it only needs to show the outside visible part of the mesh.
So roblox, THIS SUGGESTION IS THE BOMB. |

Well, wouldn't it cause lag with welding thousands of meshes together? But, eh, Lito supported, so do I! |

lito as a point, and i like his game, and it helps with lag....

lets make this a thing....
like .... actually implemented into roblox |

After reading all of the replies to this thread, I would think that if a whole map could be a mesh (take Apocalypse Rising for example) you could make all games way faster than before. Of course, some things might be broken when these meshes are created (if they can pull it off) you could make almost all loading times in the beginning (someone else do the math please) faster than trying to load AR with a 1990's computer with Windows 1.0. I also agree with Lito, (CoR5 is amazing btw) if he could make a single mesh instead of having to deal with tons of spawn-lag issues, gun breaks, model displacement issues. (barrel pointing up or gun upside down [Authority]) If Roblox makes this possible game load times will be a snap, lag complaints may almost vanish (slow computer or internet not the game) and Deadzone/Remade Deadzone can have even greater quality weapons without having to remove parts. This could quite possibly change Roblox forever. Support. Orlando, good thinking. |
