"@Sir believe it or not it was actually easier to make it into UCB/UCLA as an out of state student. Reports came out last year about them wanting the out of state tuition and because of the leak they're accepting more in-state students over a couple of years."
See I have reason to believe and not to believe it, the out-of-state/international tuition is a good reason to believe it, but don't the UC schools have to prioritize California residents due to a state law/bill/rule somewhat like here in Texas? |
I have no idea about that, but they were not following it so maybe that's why they have to accept some more now from in-state. |
thoughts on being $35-$40k in debt from loans after a 5 year masters? |
Oh, it's possible that they used to accept more out-of-state students in the past, but I believe over the last decade they've been switching to California priority. My AP Statistics teacher got into Berkeley and UCLA (he was originally from California but moved to Texas) and decided to go to Texas because the in-state tuition was significantly cheaper, he graduated from Texas in like 2001 or 2002 |

"Welcome to the club!" - the majority of America*
but actually, most Americans would be more than $40 grand in debt lol... |

meant to add an asterisk in front of "but" |

So jimbo, I don't know when you'll read this, but do you have a better idea of where you're going now? Since you said UC Berkeley makes it complicated for prospective computer science students, are you still going to go there should you get admitted? Or will you go to UC Davis or San Diego? Santa Barbara? |

1460 @ JH. 800 Math but I simply did not get the English section as well as I should've, got a 660 on English
@Sir
I'd say it's VERY LIKELY I'm going to Davis at this point.
Davis - guaranteed major, ~2 hours from home, I like the environment
San Diego - have to go through the "lottery" system, I don't wanna risk it
Santa Barbara - they would have to accept me into the honors program or give me a lot off on tuition
Santa Cruz - no chance I'm going here I think
Irvine - Irvine and Davis are about the same for computer science. Davis is closer. |
1) HOLY CRAP YOU GOT A PERFECT SCORE ON MATH. I believe I got a 1360 with a 720 on math and 640 on reading/writing on the SAT
2) UC Davis is a great school though, and it's close to home, I'd take Berkeley if I got in but if not I would take Davis if I was in your shoes. Convenience to home is a plus.
Going to Texas, it's only a 10 minute walk from my dorm to the bus, 1 hour ride up on the city bus, and 15 minute walk to home. Much better than adding up the thousands of miles driving to Iowa State |
Well, I shouldn't act like that's going to be my dorm yet, I haven't received my housing contract to sign off on |

Im hoping to get into NC State, UNC, UCLA,and SCar.
I'm not 100% set on a school yet though but I love NC state
Good luck on the UNC and UCLA man, you gotta have great scores |
Anyone on the SF up for a quick 10-20 minute college discussion? |

Probably going to be a UC D#### Aggie. Haven't ruled out Cal yet because many people in the past have been denied by UCLA and accepted by Cal, but my chances are slim after being flat-out denied by UCLA.
We're going to give a long look at UC Irvine as well though. Davis and Irvine are probably my top 2 rn. San Diego is too uncertain, UCSB would have to give me good tuition, and Santa Cruz isn't in the same realm as the other UCs |

i got till next year to stress about thi $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ |

"Haven't ruled out Cal yet because many people in the past have been denied by UCLA and accepted by Cal,"
It's like Texas/Texas A&M for me
I "got in" to Texas A&M but I would have to spend two years at Blinn College first because they denied me my major, and then I would have to transfer in to Texas A&M
While I got into Texas and I got my major at arguably one of the 5 best architecture schools in the country and 10-15 best in the world
There's still a chance at Cal, because not all the universities have the same admissions counselors reviewing you. What your UCLA counselor didn't like, your Cal counselor may like |

My potential roommate is waiting for Harvard's admission notification and it's bugging me a tiny bit but it's really ok since I haven't received my housing contract to sign off on yet |
got denied from Ithaca and possibly won't have the money to pay the housing deposit on May 1st : ^ ) |
So are you going to go to Philly CC or a college you got into? Not sure yet? |
won't know until May 1st
genuinely I do not know
there are so many variables still and so much stress from it all on my parents because it's not just me applying for college it's me and my two brothers
I'm still waiting for 2 decisions from schools my brothers both got into and if I get into one of them there's a scholarship from that school for triplets that I think we'd automatically get because it's a really small school
but I might not get in Kutztown is where I want to go if I don't get into the two I'm waiting on but I'm 5,000 short and my parents can't pay for that, I'm not taking non-government loans. I didn't get a dime of need based aid from that school despite needing it so I'm going to talk to their financial aid office about it and see about it. Plus I'm waiting on two scholarships for the Philadelphia area, it's unlikely but whatever.
right now I'd call it
60% chance of CC of Philadelphia
20% Kutztown
20% Other |

Yeah talk to them and see what's up, they need to present their case if you presented yours on the FAFSA
Iowa State and Arizona were both willing to give me over $15,000 a school year each due to academic merit and demonstrated need (my mom is a doctoral student so she makes VERY little income being a teaching assistant) but Colorado, Texas Tech, and Oregon didn't give me anything (a few thousand or hundred dollars doesn't count) so those got thrown out |
I just need to make it past the first semesters payment so I can actually register for classes and move in. Then I can get a part-time job in town and hopefully grind so I can get enough money to pay my fees every 3 months.
but my family makes right around 10k a year for 6 (sometimes 7) people and it's stupid that they give me $0 in need when I have 2 brothers also about to go to college and only 1 person who works in the house
if they just gave me ~3,000 off I'd be good to go |
"but my family makes right around 10k a year for 6 (sometimes 7) people"
holy christ man that is ROUGH this school needa give you a full ride |
its why its stupid they dont just give me like 3000 dollars and let me come to their school |
