i got 2 questions
1. what are some good ways to improve how much you can stretch your fingers on the fret board? i cant play certain chords without touching other strings
2. what were some of the first songs you learned to play? ive been playing for 2 weeks (got guitar for christmas :3) and would like to try to learn some actual songs
also if u have any more tips i would appreciate them (or any bad habits which are hard to correct when you've been playing for a while, that i should try and avoid now)

Just keep trying to play them. There really isn't anything else to it.

look up powerchord tutorials, all your problems will be solved and you will become a guitar virtuoso
if you're really itching to play stuff easily tune your guitar to drop d (standard tuning but tune the top string down a step) by laying your finger across the top 3 strings it plays a chord
the first songs i learned was one string riffs, then i started learning silverchair and blink 182 songs

1. If it feels awkward and totally unnatural, that's normal. Playing an instrument isn't really a natural thing. You just have to keep working at it. There are stretches for guitarists too. I'm sure you could find a youtube tutorial.
2. When I first learned to play, I played a lot of Thousand Foot Krutch songs because I was really into buttrock and their songs were somewhat easy to play.
3. Look up how to hold a pick. I started doing it wrong, and when I transitioned to the right way, it was almost like starting all over again. When you make your guitar squeal, that's called a pinch harmonic in case you ever need to look it up (that took me too long to figure out). Play music you like. Learn a song, then experiment with it by changing the riff a little. Don't always play the same songs. You'll never get any better.

make a device that stretches your fingers but dont break them cuz that'll stink and then you'll end up like scriabin and another composer i cant remember who broke their hand so actually dont do that

I'm still learning guitar. But I know a few french songs on it. I play classical. |

loling at all these dumb people acting like they know the guitar. i've been playing for going on 5 years now, i know music theory pretty well. i suggest working on open chords, learn those first. (e, Em, c, d, a, Am, g, g/c, e7) then I suggest learning barre chords, then from there I suggest learning scales. |

Guitar isn't easy, but by instrument standards it is. Compare violin to guitar, or double bass to guitar, or any wind instrument, to guitar. But Thomas I agree what you said about open chords, but just calling everyone stupid just makes you look like a prick. Also I think another one of the first chords people should learn (I wish I knew this earlier) is drop 3 chords, they just sound great. |
