Mine's either Peter Piot (known for studying AIDS, and helping in the discovery of EBOV) or Alexander Fleming (invented penicillin).

There's a lot of people worried or concerned about the outbreak of Ebola that is going on in West Africa, especially since a patient is being flown in to the United States today, so lets take some time to sort through the facts and figures. The strain of Ebola that is going around in Africa is known as Zaire Ebolavirus (EBOV), which is unfortunately one of the most fatal strains. However, while Ebola hemorrhagic fever is aggressively infectious (those infected are highly likely to get sick), it...

"even though it has been taken care of" The EBOV epidemic hasn't dwindled entirely at the current time, It's still spreading at a somewhat consistent rate throughout the affected countries. Although, various experimental/approved therapeutics and vaccines are being tested on the afflicted population.

"Canada will ship 800 vials of its experimental Ebola virus disease vaccine, VSV-EBOV, to the World Health Organization, Ottawa announced Saturday. The Ebola vaccine will be sent in three shipments. Human clinical trials of VSV-EBOV began Monday after previously being shown effective in other primates. "

"EBOV" is not something that should be joked about carelessly.

“This vaccine, the product of many years of scientific research and innovation, could be an important tool in curbing the outbreak. We will continue to work closely with the WHO to address some of the ethical and logistical issues around using this experimental vaccine in the fight against Ebola,” Gregory Taylor, Canada’s chief public health officer, said in a statement. Each shipment of VSV-EBOV will be packed in a special container with dry ice, at a temperature of -80 degrees Celsius, or -11...

Either Alexander Fleming, the guy who invented penicillin, or Peter Piot, the guy who discovered EBOV.

"OP, I think me and you are the only ones to understand that science..." Aveeo's pretty science-inclined too, but she doesn't really come here often anymore. Miss her, man. :^( "nice introduction to quantam mechanics" Thanks! Learning the basics about subatomic particles is a good way to slowly ease into it. It gets so much more complicated, it even melts my brain at times. "Understandable I guess. I wanted to major in Mathematics, but it doesn't pay well. I'm now trying to pursue Computer S...

I know this is old but... An airborne strain of Ebola exists, and it wasn't airborne when it first became its own strain. No offense, but I don't think you had a good grasp of how it works, at least not at the time of making this post. RESTV is an airborne strain of EBOV, and its first major airborne outbreak was in the late 1980s-early 1990s. It wasn't always airborne though.

The range and capabilities of EBOV are easily restrained by its own genetic components. Virology in itself is greatly inferior to bacteriology in terms of development. Nonetheless, we have plenty of "viable" mechanisms to reduce the propagation of lethal pathogens. It is merely a matter of revising them accordingly.
