Story: 2017: A terrorist suitcase bomb destroys the Arabian oil sector, crippling the world. Russia becomes the new world leader of oil production, and with the profits from this oil Russia begins rebuilding its army. Soon, the Russian oil producers start raising prices to astronomical levels, but there is no competition, Russia has a monopoly on the resource. 2021: A new superpower, the United States of Europe, consists of all the countries of mainland Europe (excluding the UK respectively) starts preparing and creating armies, while the United States of America enters anarchy. 2022: The United States of America now has a new dictatorship with promises of lower oil prices, and military production at maximum priority. The US begins construction of an SDI, a project that will eliminate nuclear missiles while they are traveling. The United States of Europe begins building the Sevn line, a defensive wall protecting the eastern border of Europe from Russia. 2024: Tensions rise with the United States of Europe and Russia, as minor border disputes begin adding up. The Sevn line is starting to be reinforced with various air force bases and military stations. The United States of America enters its next turn of anarchy, this time ending in the same year. A new dictatorship forms, this time with true intentions of lowering oil prices. 2025: A terrorist attack at JFK space center makes the citizens of America outcry for war against the ones responsible. All signs of responsibility lie with the United States of Europe, but no accurate evidence is supplied. Tensions rise between all superpowers. Russian oil fields are being attacked by unknown factions. 2026: The United States of Europe declares war on Russia after a major border dispute. the United States of America in turn declares war on the United States of Europe, and Russia. The factions are at war! Sound good?

That actually seems realistic. However, what about all of the other countries that produce oil? While it is true that Russia would be the leading predecessor regarding oil if Saudi Arabia's oil production was crippled, other countries, though to a much lesser extent, also produce oil. In order to compensate for that, I would add just a few more years to the timeline so that the oil fields have time to deplete. That way, Russia would indeed be the only monopoly of oil. Other then that small minute detail that isn't really that necessary, that is a great idea to use for an RTS.

I agree, I was thinking of adding another superpower, South African Republic, a country that forms all of the African countries in the panhandle and the majority of the eastern ones. That country wouldn't be a major entity in the game though.

Alright. It's a story. But you claimed to be making an RTS, so the story is fine and dandy, but tell us more about the game now. Also, I'll always be against using real places and countries in a game, especially one about war, when it would be just as easy to name them "Red", "Blue", "Yellow", etc. and keep out politics.

The game will be set in a world wide conflict. It will be a real-time turn based strategy game, in which one faction (two players each) makes a move (buys a unit, attacks a strongpoint, builds fortifications, purchase upgrades). Each time it gets to be a faction's turn one player (it will alternate who chooses an action each time) will decide to do one of the actions. There's a one minute timer for each turn, to keep the game moving. The other players can only view their current position while waiting, but if the player who needs to make his turn decides to attack a strongpoint, the defending faction will need their two players to defend against the attack.

There will also be 15 units per brigade, but there might be environmental modifiers. To win the war you need to... a) Control 90% of the enemy faction's territory b) Control both of the enemy's capitols. c) Have the most territories and population by the end of 60 turns. I'll explain the details of battle later.

Funny you should say that Des, as the fact you mentioned turns make me question if you know what RTS means as well. ;) As in, Real Time Strategies don't have turns, making yours just a Strategy, which actually makes it more original. We have a number of RTS', but not a lot of turn-based Strategies. Probably because they're significantly more difficult to make in my opinion. Either way, just joking :p

Real time strategy with turns? But wouldn't that be a turn-based strategy game? Whaaat? No, it's not biology or psychology, it's oreology. The study of attraction.

@Oreology It is turn based, but when you enter a battle it is a RTS. So I combined the name. :P

I will describe how battles are played out: 1) The attacking faction decides to attack an enemy strongpoint through the global map when it is his turn. 2) The battle begins, the defending faction receives five starting units from their brigade, eight forward position regular army units, and an extra unit or two depending on the terrain. The attacking faction receives three starting units, and six forward position regular army units. 3) There will be a variable amount of uplink stations that need to be captured to win. These uplinks can be captured by infantry only, and can only be upgraded if the infantry unit is an engineer. The upgrades can be an airstrike, EMP, or forward position army unit deployments. 4) As you destroy / kill enemy units or hold uplinks you will earn command points (CP) These CPs can be used to deploy more units from your reserves. 5) DEFCON 1 When you're losing the battle and are about to be eliminated you gain access to emergency DEFCON 1 weapons, including EMPs, WMDs, and missile barrages. If you use a WMD the attacking faction immediately gains access and clearance to use a WMD themselves. 6) The battle ends when: -} Assault --| a) One faction holds more than five uplinks, and controls those uplinks for two minutes. -} Raid --| a) The attacking faction destroys half of the critical targets before the timer runs out. (The defender needs to keep these targets alive.) --| Extra) Artillery units are not available to the attacker during a raid mission. -} Siege --| a) The attacking faction destroys the critical base before the timer runs out. (The defender needs to keep the base alive.) --| Extra) The defending faction cannot deploy any units during a siege, but after the reinforcement timer runs out (Two minutes before the regular timer ends) the defending faction can use a forward position army unit deployment.

Total story revamp, it's much more realistic: 2017: Tensions between Saudi Arabia and Iran have brought full scale war. Iran launches a nuclear missile and destroys the Arabian oil sector, crippling the world. Russia becomes the new world oil supplier, regaining strength and creating an arms build up to match that of the Cold War. 2018: The United States of Europe (USE) and the United States of America (USA) begin construction of the Extraction military SDI, a weapon that can eliminate nuclear missiles as they're traveling. Fuel prices begin rising as minor countries begin running out of oil. 2019: The USE and USA declare a new era, a world where nuclear missiles cannot harm anyone. The world rejoices, and peace is celebrated. But in the same year, the USE begins construction of powerful armies and researches advanced weaponry. 2020: The United States of America begins construction of the Freedomstar missile platform, a military space station that will hold four companies of marines that are ready to be deployed around the world in less than fifteen minutes. The orbital military station will also hold hundreds of WMDs, ready to be launched. An international outcry and warning from the UN does not stop the USA with their plans. 2021: The USE finishes researching powerful energy weapons, ones that can be fired from space and hit their target in less than a half of a second. These energy weapons are sent off with satellites into space, waiting for the inevitable use. The USA is mid-way through finishing the construction of the Freedomstar. 2022: All minor oil suppliers run dry, Russia has a new monopoly on the resource. Fuel prices reach astronomical levels, and tensions between the USE and USA rise against Russia. A terrorist attack at JFK launch station shocks the world, as advanced military weaponry and well trained soldiers try to destroy the launch pad. Their efforts do not succeed, and all blame lies with the USE. No accurate evidence is supplied though. 2024: The Freedomstar is now almost finished, hundreds of American soldiers wait to defend the space shuttle's launch. As the space shuttle begins it ascent warnings blare at the Pentagon as an energy weapon from space begins locking on to the shuttle. A light blue energy burst breaks the clouds and hits the space shuttle. The entire twenty-eight man crew dies as the shuttle hits the Earth. Mourning begins, and outcries for war against those responsible hit the ears of the pentagon. 2025: The USA prepares for war, as the USE starts fortifying their border on the Atlantic. Russia stops selling oil altogether, crippling the world. Russia sends its troops to the border and begins construction of military bases near Moscow. 2026: The USA declares war on the USE and Russia, USE declares war on Russia at the same time. The factions are at war!

Added more details to the beginning of the story: 2017: Tensions between Saudi Arabia and Iran have brought full scale war. Iran launches a nuclear missile and destroys the Arabian oil sector, crippling the world. Russia becomes the new world oil supplier, regaining strength and creating an arms build up to match the scale of the Cold War. 2018: A newly formed superpower, The United States of Europe (USE) consists of all the countries of Europe. This new superpower begins construction of Extraction, a new military SDI with the help of the United States of America. (USA) The Extraction is a weapon that can eliminate nuclear missiles as they're traveling. Fuel prices begin rising as minor countries begin running out of oil. 2019: The USE and USA declare a new era, a world where nuclear missiles cannot harm anyone. The world rejoices, and peace is celebrated. Russia does not celebrate with the other superpowers. In the same year the USE begins construction and re-strengthening of their military might. Advanced military technologies are researched, including rail firearms. (Magnetic firearms that shoot faster and hit harder than gunpowder weaponry) 2020: The United States of America begins construction of the Freedomstar missile platform, a military space station that will hold four companies of marines that are ready to be deployed around the world in less than fifteen minutes. The orbital military station will also hold hundreds of WMDs, ready to be launched. Nice story line, but Europe would never unite. Now way in hell. And the US entering Anarchy, with a dictator? I lol'd. If they had a device that could shoot a nuke out of the sky, they'd have nuked China and Russia already.

*Sigh.* Time to go into politics. We have no reason to nuke China. I do not believe that they are Americas ally, though I may be mistaken. However, I do know that they are our... third... I think(?) biggest country that we export to. Export=profit, because we can sell them stuff that is cheap to us to a higher price for them, and it helps our economy. Basically, that $16,000,000,000,000 debt would be a lot bigger if we did not trade with China. Sorry for my rambling. I am a debater, and so I kind of studied this... Also I see no reason to nuke China...
