dubstep in general has a horrible community and looks horrible, because everyone just sits on the surface of skrillex songs from 2-3 years ago, and everything else created within that bubble. dubstep has changed, it has changed REALLY fast. whereas skrillex was the average back in 2010, now all dubstep is made to be either super chill or become a dancefloor destroyer.
here is an example of the "super chill" side, which dubstep haters should listen to: http://youtu.be/4HVjldqWx4w
it isn't some obscure song, this was pretty much one of the best selling song of 2012 seven lions has become one of the biggest names in dubstep. and yes, this was released on skrillex's record label.
and here is an example of the dancefloor destroyer side: http://youtu.be/lWDnwTsdtaw
once again, a super popular song. it stayed #1 on the dubstep charts for several months, which is unheard of unless you're even more popular than skrillex. it peaked around #20 of the overall charts, which is almost never heard of for a non-house/trance/techno song (only dubstep song that got even farther in was a noisia song that reached #9). back then, they were unheard of, and this skyrocketed them to becoming one of the largest things on the scene. they released a glitch hop song recently, which hit #7 in the overall charts.
anyway, i have been mainly obsessing over au5 recently. for the dubstep fans here, his song 'blossom' is #1 on beatport dubstep charts, surprising nobody at all, because it's signed onto monstercat and it's made by au5. singularity is still his best song, hands down, with halcyon right behind it. |

You guys know how some girls (Mostly teens) love to listen to Justin Bieber or One Direction? My cousin (Eighteen) listens to dubstep. \m/ And she's a girl-girl. XD
Just wanted to share that, since someone did share how they hate dubstep. XD Enough about them, I just love dubstep. One of my favorite pass times (Well, listening anyway).
Could someone give me a list of good dubstep "composers" (So far, I only listen to Skrillex and Winside)? That'd be great. Lol. Kthxbai.

here are some good artists:
Pegboard Nerds - http://youtu.be/lWDnwTsdtaw - super energetic music, they are one of the biggest things in the scene right now. other songs: razor sharp, nerds on mushrooms, quiet riot
Seven Lions - http://youtu.be/s0-saiiP6iw - striking a perfect balance between brostep and "chillstep", his music keeps the heaviness of brostep and the cleanliness of chillstep. he's also super popular. other songs: days to come, the great divide, still with me
Excision - http://youtu.be/Z8OICbb0lpQ - this guy has been around since brostep began in 2007, and everyone respects him. after i stopped obsessing over skrillex, excision became my favorite artist. oh, and he runs a really large record label for other dark and heavy songs like his (rottun). other songs: crowd control, flip the switch, the underground
Au5 - http://youtu.be/HXhTKddTt0o - newer onto the scene, he's already had a pretty big impact. he has a unique style of having the buildups of chillstep and drops so heavy they fit on rottun perfectly. other songs: singularity, iteration, crystal mathematics
Datsik - http://youtu.be/ZE72TQ7HtYs - friend of excision, equally as popular. he has his own style which is a bit more metallic than dark. known for his collabs with excision back when brostep was first starting, he runs his own record label now (firepower). other songs: evilution, firepower, boom (i put boom as it shows what i mean by older excision and datsik, and what brostep used to be)
Kill the Noise - http://youtu.be/Q0WLFpIQ0o0 - i don't know what to say. other songs: dying, jump ya body, must be the feeling
Nero - http://youtu.be/llDikI2hTtk?t=20s - nero is one of those groups that you can wear a t-shirt of and have half of the people in the public recognize them. they're as popular as skrillex, and i personally love their futuristic sound. other songs: won't you (be there), guilt, this way
Varien - http://youtu.be/tCX0iuGmWnM - this guy is one of the most unique producers on the scene. his #1 aim in his songs are atmosphere, he commonly uses instruments never heard in other electronic songs, and he always changes up his style. other songs: lilith, mirrors, cloak & dagger
Knife Party - http://youtu.be/A2GSyQBdeEQ - made of two former members of pendulum (rip), this duo have become even more of superstars than they originally were. they mostly make electrohouse, but their dubstep songs are super great. other songs: centipede, crush on you, bonfire
Bassnectar - http://youtu.be/tvguv-lvq3k - he is THE most respected man in dubstep, been around longer than even excision, and is known for never making the same song twice. he will go from blatant skrillex-style brostep to chillstep in one album, and explore something completely new that hasn't been done before. other songs: empathy, what, timestretch
Flux Pavilion - http://youtu.be/-cVbw8RZOfM - after skrillex, flux is the person that people usually go to. the song i listed is actually the song that got me into dubstep past skrillex. his stuff is good. other songs: starlight, i can't stop, daydramer |
|
|
also, can anyone recommend dubstep that i may not know? i won't get mad at you if i already know the song, i just have a few hundred dollars now and want to buy some new music |

Overrwatcher really knows his Dubstep. Anyways, I thought I'd share a friend of mine who makes Dubstep and other genres. His name is Hybrid Rain. Look him up on Soundcloud. |
