My thought: If an account is inactive for two years straight (or it could possibly be up to five years), a reminder electronic mail is sent to the one associated with the account. If a response is received telling the system to delete the account or no response is received after two weeks, the account is deleted.
No account with under 10,000 total place visits is eligible to be deleted.
As far as a user deleting his or her own account, it can be done through a verification process similar to what a previous poster described. |

1.Delete accounts that have less than a week of total activity.
2.Has less than 50 place visits
3.If the said account doesn't have a email and has less than 50 visits and less than a week of total activity it should be removed from the database

@Cp: Yeah, several people have proposed ideas for HEAVY verification to avoid mistakes and someone other than the true owner of the account messing something up. |

Support. They've stolen a bunch of usernames too and keep them from being used for good. A lot of these people haven't even changed their default joining character from a long time ago, makes you wonder.

What about this?
When you have an old, inactive account, your username can be used by someone else to create an account.
If you then log into your old account, you can choose a new username. Friends on your old account will get
a notification in their mailbox that this account has switched usernames.
But what when someone makes an new account, and the original user doesn't 'reactivate' it (he doesn't come
to choose a new username)? Well, everyone can search for the username, and choose to search for the new or
old account. When someone then visits the old account, they will see a symbol next to the username, this will
mark that the account is inactive and that a new player is using the same username.
- Old accounts are forced to choose a new username when a new player chooses to get that same username.
- Admins can select accounts, so that these account's usernames won't be used by new players. It's forbidden to
ask for your account to be 'protected' by this option.

It would be a little unfair if they wouldn't. On the other hand... who would pay for a game they haven't been
playing in such a long time (let's say two years, like everyone's saying).
