You can't remember much of last night. You were too scared to leave the room as your mom and dad got into a fight. The psyche had distracted you, slowly and creepily peeking it's head out of the corner of the hall, eerily turning it to face you. The next day as you were heading to school, Sarah catches the bump in your backpack. "Really, Adam?" she curses as she pulls out the box of pills, "How many times have I told you to stay away from these things? They're dangerous, and you could be expelled from Ratsworth Academical for carrying them!" She throws them far out into the woods, where you see the psyche staring down at it from behind the tree.

I stop in my tracks, staring in fear at the psyche for a moment. I quickly turn and continue walking with Sarah to school, shivering a bit from the cold grip of fear. "You've probably told me to stay away from my pills more than a hundred times and I still haven't listened. No clue why you persist," I say as I continue walking, subtly patting the pill bottle in my pants pocket.

"Because, I'm your friend and I care about your well-being. Which means no more," she says, knocking your hand away from your pocket and snatching those pills, also throwing them out into the forest, where the robe covered hand of the psyche pops out from behind a tree and catches it, drawing it behind the tree to never be seen again. "You might want to be a little less obvious next time," she smiles, happy as she hasn't the ability to see the psyche. "So," she continues, "You done with my dad's book? That psyche stuff is really interesting, though it makes me wonder, if they help people reach eternal happiness, then why do they only appear here in Ratsworth? And what about this Frederick Johnson I read about in my dad's notes? Poses mysteries, don't you say?"

I don't look at where Sarah throws the pills so that I don't see the psyche again. "It's not so interesting if the thing is hunting you down," I reply, fishing the book out of my backpack and handing it to Sarah.

"Well, according to the stories, though these are oral, this book is the only document of them, they don't hunt you down. They want to help you. Of course, as says the book, some say they want to kill you, but they lure you, and they don't hunt. It's like fishing you see. But, I can see what you mean. Those Noh masks scare me like nothing before. Come on, we don't wanna be late for school!" she says, running with her arm pressing the book against her stomach to keep it secure onto there. Best run before you're alone.

That thing is probably not going to come after me, Sarah said they don't hunt, they lure. I continue walking, not making an effort to catch up with Sarah. Alone time to think is always for the best.

You hear footsteps behind you. You look behind expecting to see it coming after you, but you only see two little elementary kids. You breath of sigh of relief. Ratsworth Academic does group all three of the schools together. You should be safe even if you don't run after Sarah.

Good. I continue walking at a regular pace to the academy.

First hour was Oregon history, a subject that you for one hate. At least some of the best looking girls are in it. "Now, class, I'll teach you more about the darker histories of our state," says Mr. Elms, your teacher. "Who can tell me about Frederick Anderson?"

No reason to draw attention to myself by answering. I take off my glasses and begin chewing, using the hand that's not holding my glasses to tap silently on my leg.

No else raises their hand. "Of course. Frederick Anderson was born here in Ratsworth and stayed here until the year 2003, when he was executed for two cases of some the worse mass murders in history. In the year 1995, he killed 23 people in a grocery store, where the murders remained so clean they couldn't figure out it was him, especially with the black robes and the Noh mask he wore at the time, and the fact that only one camera was left in tact, and it didn't provide much evidence. The second time, in the year 2002, he killed a family of six and was finally caught by the police, who found efficient evidence through a confession of the murders, and on the date of January the 13th, 2003, he was put on the electric chair. Many people asked him before the execution why he had confessed, he had, of course, always responded with a smile, "Because, what point is there when the jury would convict me guilty anyways?" This statement really did cause an uproar. There is a conspiracy in Ratsworth about the killings, because when they asked him about why he chose the clothing items, he said "Story Forge". This lead to a rumor of an occult, though some compare them to some entity the which I know little about."

I continue chewing my glasses, deep in thought. How is murder a suitable punishment for murder? You can't show killing is bad through more killing. There's a thing called prison which is meant for criminals. What a stupid criminal justice system. Whenever the teacher looks away, I open up my hollowed out History textbook, and take a pill out from the pill bottle hidden inside, before gently closing it again and swallowing the pill.

You go through the school day, the Frederick mystery plaguing your mind. At least no one caught you with the hollowed textbook, but you could feel the psyche breathing on your neck in class. As you leave school, Sarah catches up with you. "How was your day?" she asks.

I roll my eyes. "Do you think I could go over to your house for awhile? Mum's been a bit on edge lately," I say. I'm being baited by some strange being, and I'd rather be with a friend than an abusive parent.

As the day goes on, you're sitting on your couch listening to your father's angry mumbling. Your mother left for the club just before you came back.

Assuming I have a TV, I start flipping through channels until I come across something interesting.

Nothing interesting except the rain outside your window.
