What do you think of Google's Native Client?

Google is working something that they call NaCl, or, the 'Na'tive 'Cl'ient. Basically, NaCl lets you compile C++ code that is completely independent of the operating system. Not only does your compiled C++ code run on Windows and Mac, it also runs on all Linux distributions, Android, and iOS. So, you write your app once, compile it once, and it runs on every device out there. There's also supposedly practically no slow-down at all, and the code is ran in a sandbox so it is incredibly secure. Currently, their SDK is pretty messy and I've had trouble writing applications in it. But I think if they can work out the kinks and make it easy to use, it could be revolutionary.

Guys. I hope you know that it being called "NaCl" wasn't an accident, right? They were PURPOSELY making the pun of salt. So you making puns on top of a pun is just stupid.

There's a comparison to be drawn between Java and NaCl. They are both similar technologies that have names that are similar in how they relate to food. Similar technology? They both use virtualization to run programs across many platforms.

NaCl is a hashing algorithm, and is pronounced as "salt." If they call it NaCl, they will have a lawsuit on their hands.
