Windows XP compiled at 4 million lines of code... You're gonna need more punchcards than land in china if you wish to write the next windows on. (Probably better than windows 8, I assume.)

Windows 7 is around 10 million lines of C++. Now imagine how many punch cards of Fortran or ASM that is. See?
