I don't know if you already know this, but ROBLOX maintenance doesn't crash your clientside ROBLOX Studio program, and doesn't cause you to lose your work. It would only do that if you built your ROBLOX place in an actual server, which you don't. Besides, even if it did crash or something, there's an autosave feature (which you can set to intervals of as little as 1 minute) and you can save it to your computer. I have been building for a long time on ROBLOX, and never have I had any problems concerning Internet connection with Studio. ROBLOX Studio doesn't require internet to play, only to upload your places or models to the site.

Also add a connection bar telling how good your connection is with the server. |

@@@FOR THOSE WHO ARE CONFUSED@@@
What we are talking about in this thread is:
Some people use a Personal Server (BC ONLY) to build in-game. Just as you would PLAY a game, we build in it. This does save, but only ever 30 minutes or when you leave the server.
The main issue with this is, ROBLOX does updates sometimes (As you will see when a red banner goes on the top of the screen on the ROBLOX home page). These updates can disconnect a player from their game. If you are disconnected in a game while building, you can lose a lot of your work that ROBLOX didn't save because you didn't leave the game. Sure, some people get lucky and are disconnected right when it does its autosave (The every 30 minute one) however that is rare. This thread suggests that in game, the ROBLOX team puts out a system message into ALL instances of ALL games that tells them when the server will disconnect (By detecting the server connection and player connection). The ROBLOX team would put out 4 of these massive system messages. One saying "You will disconnect from the game in 30 minutes", two saying "You will disconnect from the game in 15 minutes", three saying "You will disconnect from the game in 5 minutes", and finally the "You will lose disconnection in 1 minute". If ROBLOX could do this, it would make ALL in-game builder's lives 100x easier. Also, another idea is once the ROBLOX team puts out its final "1 Minute" disconnection warning it could add a timer on the screen like in kohls admin when you type :countdown 60. It could initiate a countdown so if a player is AFK, they will have a better chance at getting to the game in time.
Sure, this won't solve ALL of the in-game building problems. However this is a major one for those "late night" builders who build at night (like me). ROBLOX does updates at night so people do not get affected by them, however people in different time zones or who stay up late (me) DO get affected. Many times I lose a lot of major things in games I am working on due to the disconnections.
I do realize that ROBLOX does have a red banner that goes onto the ROBLOX page when it is updating, however this is not good enough. Many times, I work straight through an update not even knowing that it is happening because I have been in-game and not looking at the website for a while. This is when it happens and I get D/C'ed. Trust me, when I see the red banner I make sure to leave the game (If I did a lot of work) because I do NOT want to risk losing my work. Sure there are times I am lucky when I risk building during updates such as the other day when InfernalDarkness and I were building in a PS of mine and we just entered the game and added a small campfire and a few logs. That isn't much, however I did notice a red banner on the website upon entering. I told infernal to leave if I get DC'ed and then we began to build. About half way through building the campfire and things I was disconnected and infernal was too at the same time. I knew this could happen, but I risked it. LUCKILY the game had saved a few minutes before we got DC'ed so not much of out building was lost.
If you do not think this is an issue, then you are highly selfish. Many builders like me and Infernal use this method of building, and just because you use studio it doesn't matter. My studio lags, that is why I do not build in it. Also, I think in-game building is a good idea because I can use a PS to build with my friends and teach them how to build in game even. When I was originally taught to build by Trail39rulez, I learned in-game. I loved the method and I know for a fact that it is and always will be my favorite method of building. I know that there are many different types of building such as script building, studio building, IN-GAME BUILDING, and etc. I have tried studio and did not like it. I am currently trying to figure out how to script so I can script my own games I work on.
For all of you who still doubt me, I want to leave you by saying you should try it. If you don't like it, then go ahead and post about how you like studio. However I do not like people saying in-game building is ineffective or not a viable method of building, because I have made some amazing things through building in-game and I would not want to build any other way.
If you actually read this far, then I am very surprised. You are one of the few who will read this as well. I realize it may be a worthless post since no-one will read, but I don't care. I want this to be out there. I want people to realize that there are other methods of building besides studio.

I support, but have you every built offline? Wouldn't that solve the problem? |
|
|
@Cheeser88, When you are located in an actual INSTANCE of an actual GAME you are always online according to ROBLOX. What you are thinking is of those who build in studio because there is no way, as far as I know, to build offline in a real Personal Server game.

I will support if it were a sound warning. |

How about an in-game notification across all clients? It would work. |

Maybe it could be like Call of Duty and show a plug that's disconnected from its socket if you have poor connection. |

Urm I want to respond to this. But I don't know what PBS is so if someone can tell me that would be great. |

PBS stands for "Personal Build Server". Also, the idea of having a warning for updates is nice, but the idea of a "wifi-reader" is completely unreasonable. ROBLOX could possibly show you how well your connection to the game is, but checking to see the likely-hood of being disconnected? No. If you really want something like that to happen you could use http requests. Also, the idea part that I supported--the warning for updates--can also be done with http requests. Learn to script if you want some updates, would you? It would be very unlikely for ROLBOX to update something that could be scripted. Overall, I support the add-on of the post by The1FaZeTemperr, but not the "Disconnection Imminent" part. That part seems too unreasonable. |
