He could probably learn the syntax, but programming requires a lot more than 6 weeks to perfect.

I meant like the basics like for example making a dance floor work. Ermm maybe like making water move stuff like that.

All 6 of those weeks would have to be where he taught himself that life isn't spoon-fed to him; he has to work hard for what he wants.

A dance floor is easy, but moving water depends on what you want it to do. If you want it to flow around blocks then that may take a bit of effort, or a big block of water that moves up and down every so often is fairly easy. It just depends on what you actually want to achieve in scripting / programming.

The bad thing is wiki doesn't really help him a lot so I wish I knew how to script. I don't really mean he has to be a perfected scripter that knows everything that would be like 3 or 4 months for him but I don't think hes that smart he has the grammar and everything but yea.

If any scripters out their know how to script and can teach him easy stuff like moving water a dance floor and stuff then that'd be great. Thats all he wants to learn really how to do easy stuff like that.

It takes longer than a few months to even come relatively close to becoming a 'perfected scripter' (if it is even possible, which I highly doubt it is). Anyways, just get him to take some basic free models like lava bricks and have him mod them and try to find patterns. That should give anyone willing to put in effort a good idea of how to use some basics.

There are several good beginner's guides on the ROBLOX Wiki that teach you the basics. My favorite is Camoy's Cookbook (http://wiki.roblox.com/index.php/Cookbook), though it uses slightly sophisticated language for 10 year olds. It's highly accessible and has a lot of good-to-know tidbits in it. For a more fundamental introductory guide, I'd recommend Absolute Beginner's Guide to Scripting: http://wiki.roblox.com/index.php/Absolute_beginner%27s_guide_to_scripting

Suremark, aren't we supposed to be advertising LuaLearners as LuaLearners staff instead of the wiki? Hmm. ~LuaWeaver; Programmer, gamer, developer.

We're going to get flamed for this, you know. LuaLearners is another good option for learning scripting. We've got a large group of 10,000+ members and a community of other young learners and professors alike who visit our website (lua.bz) who would be happy to help you and answer any questions you have. There's a public forum on the website for asking scripting questions, or you can just chat anyone up on the public wall and see if they're up for helping you. There's also a collection of lessons which you will find on the website; they may be of use to you.
