"Sir. A scout has found a Macedonian settlement nearby to the mountains. They're fortified and appear to have oil in their gatehouses. Should we attack?" a soldier asks, saluting before speaking.

"Yes. We will crush them!" |
As your army approaches the top of the mountains, a militia has already been informed. They are poorly armoured and armed, certainly no match for Roman legionnaires. They drop balls of burning oil down the mountainside, taking out a handful of men. Militia archers release volleys upon your men. A total of 25 have died already.

{Is it still optional to temporarily retreat and build siege ladders?} |
(Yes. But it'd allow some free shots at your soldiers from the back.)

I order the men to retreat to build siege ladders. |
12 soldiers are killed on your tactical retreat back to the settlement. Your workers are hard at work. Your workers and architects are combining forces to create housing for you armies and civilians. You build a maximum of 20 siege towers.
(Also, due to my inaccurate research, hoplites weren't used by the Romans. Instead, they're replaced with legionnaire swordsmen, OK?)

{alright}
A small group of soldiers are sent in as a distraction. Then the others come in with their siege towers. |
A small militia calvary charge strikes the decoy. While the archer towers and wall defenses are mostly dedicated to help destroy the decoy, your soldiers climb up stealthily with the ladders. You quickly take control of the gatehouse. The archer towers are not fast to overrun and capture.

I order the decoy to retreat and if the militia does not follow, go towards the siege ladders and climb support the main force. |
The decoy withdraws from the field of battle. The calvary charges after them, along with a small band of swordsmen. The archers are quickly all killed by your soldiers, indeed fast. During the fight, your soldiers yell about Mars giving them the strength of 10,000,000 men.

The decoy retreats back to the Macedonian settlement, and I order legionarres on the wall to use the bows from fallen Macedonians on the cavalry. |
About twenty more militia have rejoined the rebellion since your retreat back to your settlement. Your javelins quickly stampede in and impale multiple enemies with javelins. Legionnaires that figure out how to use bows accurately, You kill multiple civilians. Many children along with them.

I order the decoy to turn around and fight the cavalry, with the accurate legionarres helping. |

(Coming, and I'd rather you post on the signup rather than someone else's.)

The accurate legionnaires land some pretty deep shots. They kill off most of the enemy and your swordsmen pull through the enemy and joins the main body.

The army proceeds into the settlement, killing all with an illness or elderly age. |
The women appear seductive. Your men beg to frolic with them. Any boy above the age of twelve are lined up in front of you, along with the girls. The men have either died in combat or fled to the hills. In the chief's house, you can find emeralds, diamonds and rubies, along with a countless amount of golden rings.

I grin and take everything takeable. Any men from the settlement that can be found are declared slaves. "I claim this settlement in the name of Rome!" |
Your soldiers raise the Roman flag. A great feat has come from this. Although those seductive women have poisoned your soldiers, or slit their throats. This remains unseen to you yet though. The only information you know of is that they've gone missing.
Fortissima primus ... exibit et pugnabit, reuerteris receptum cultissima vincere hostibus Vestibulum suscipit. |
I allow the men to rest while I try to figure out why the men are going missing. |
The men that rest are poisoned silently in the night, outside of your tent. The next morning, they're weaving new suits for the men. In your spoils, you get 12 chickens, 4 cows, and multiple chunks of charcoal and iron.
