Currently you can change the surfaces on roblox, to make the surfaces of an individual brick, smooth, glued, hinged, etc... I think it would be helpful to have the option to change the 'BrickColor' of a surface, and to change the 'Material' of a surface as well (under the list 'Surface'). Applications: - Houses (Outside walls are bricks, and red, BUT inside walls are smooth, and white.) - Terrain (Top of terrain is green and grass, BUT bottom of terrain is brown and dirt.) This idea meets the future aims of ROBLOX as it will reduce part count for certain applications. Thanks for reading, and please reply with any suggestions, or concerns. SD

There are decals which may follow your idea. There are millions of decals out there, perhaps some could be used. kthxbai

Decals are a possibility, but decals just adds to workplace loading lag... Very messy way of doing a task that could be done much simpler and cleaner. Besides decals are time consuming if doing it to texturize a mass amount of bricks, and decals do not work properly all the time...

Support, even though it would reduce brick count, this could cause lag, but still support

It wouldn't cause as much lag as having 2x as much bricks would. It's only changing a variable on a part, doesn't effect performance barely at all.

Support. Decals and Textures take in the lighting in a weird and very strange way, and ROBLOX's automated "create shine map here" doesn't seem to work right. Very evident in my own Duskcrown Palace.

It depends on how many bricks you have, if you have one brick, it would be slightly laggier, but with large houses, it could be less laggy

No, overall it is less laggy no matter what. It is just a variable of the part, rather than the game redering the same part twice with different variables, it loads 1 brick with different variables.

Support. Imagine this and the new mesh feature. Brick lag would be a thing of the past.

Support; Decals can be used, yes, but its just a waste of space.

The sun was so appalled that it decided to shine upon this glorious idea which the clouds showed no hesitation to move out of the way of the sunlight. Meh, support.

I'm unsure how this might affect performance but I don't need any more lag. ~ LOST MY SIGGY ~

a lot of complicated things come to play here, though the idea is nice I suppose. Even though this technically is possible at the moment, an official way would be nice, though again, there are some things to think about. What would happen to the current BrickColor property? Millions of games use that property to change the color of the ENTIRE brick. Would it just override all surfaces? Would it be a hidden property? Would there still be an easy way to color the entire brick? Not only that, but the way ROBLOX renders things could also come into play here.

"No, overall it is less laggy no matter what. It is just a variable of the part, rather than the game redering the same part twice with different variables, it loads 1 brick with different variables." any performance impact would come from the client having to render each area of the part individually, not because the part has more "variables" (incorrect term, but ok) What would happen with unioned parts? What would happen with parts with meshes? What would happen with Wedges, CornerWedges, etc?

Here's a possible solution to what xeptix said about the brickcolor property, have it so that property simply changes the color of all edges to whatever color is selected and then players can change each edge individually.
