Yeah that's the scoring system for Rugby Union and Sevens.
The conversion after a try is worth two points.
The diving is because you don't score until you put the ball down and the conversion kick is from the angle at which you scored, so that's why when no one's around, you'll see someone run the ball under the posts before scoring.
If you want to follow the sports, I suggest starting off watching rugby sevens (short-field version of union) just to help you understand standard 15s union and/or rugby league better.
