He's not "insane." His fiancee was annoying him and he was annoying her. She punched him, he knocked her out (probably from a hit) and supposedly was caught dragging her to an elevator. She wasn't his fiancee at the time. She didn't want to press charges therefore dropped them, but the NFL is still suspending him. They just got into a fight, like most couples do.

My music teacher was best friends with Ray Rice in college. My music teacher went to Rutgers and she met Ray Rice and they became best friends throughout college.
