'Switch to Desktop Mode to Play Games'?!

Whenever I try to join games I always get the message 'Switch to Desktop Mode to Play Games' I am on desktop though, but it says 'Add-on for this website failed to run' if that has something to do with it..

You cannot run a browser in the Windows 8 or 8.1 UI. You need to run a browser via desktop. There should be an option to do that in your browser.

It seems to work via google Chrome but not Internet explorer
