my (very religious, just pointing that out) philosophy teacher actually got mad at me for putting value on human life what i stated was basically that if i'm put into a situation that where i have to decide whether a president or a homeless person with no family or friends dies, and if i don't choose then all 3 of us will die, then i would choose the homeless person clearly the president has a family, and whether or not you like him or not, his death would still send the US into turmoil honestly i feel like people who are offended by this are just acting ignorant. you can't honestly tell me they both get an equal vote. regardless of what made the homeless person homeless, or his capacity to cure cancer possibly, i would have to base my choice off of present information, and therefore the president would be spared. what do you think

like yeah homeless people have rights and it's evil to kill anyone but in this hypothetical situation, you HAVE to choose you're just naive imo if you choose to spare the homeless person who's death effects nobody but himself as opposed to the president who's death effects several dozen very personally and millions less personally

You can't really put a value on a human life though. Imagine living for say 20 years, and have it all end by being in the wrong place at the wrong time. Similar to war, people lived from infancy and all of those memories and life is gone in a split second. It's a waste to take away a human life that did nothing wrong.

if i could choose to have a reowned physicist die or have i die, i would choose the physicist to live. sometimes, the life of another is truly greater than yours.

@igoing put yourself in the hypothetical situation. it's not a fair situation, and it sucks to choose, we can all agree on that. but you have to. you choose the president right? that's still putting a value on human life.

It shouldn't matter. Life is life. It's just the morals. It's like saying a person should die because they aren't as worthy of life as someone else. You can go through your whole life being a hard worker, struggling to survive and feed yourself and your family. But the President could have just been born into a rich family. How does that make him more worth it to live on? A similar situation I like is during the 2012 movie, where they had the big boats, all the rich people got to go on regardless of their genetic composition. When the boats themselves could house like, x7 more people. It's choosing who is worth life. It's an un-answerable question. If you can honestly say that you could live with a human being dying by your hand for no reason, I pity you greatly.

you're still ignoring the question you can pretty it up with all of your ethics all you want but it doesn't change the fact that if one HAD to be chosen, one clearly negatively effects a plethora of more people you can't just say it's an unanswerable question, that's not how hypotheticals work. that's they point of a hypothetical. if you would honestly just choose neither and get all three of you killed then you're incredibly naive. obviously, in any other situation that is any less extreme, your ethic views (that i share for the most part) are completely relevant. but when pushed to such an extreme brink, you're forced to place value on human life. which is just proof that if in an extreme situation that life can have value, then in any other situation, life has value (even though it loses its relevance)

Actually, The 'Value' of a human life is based on morals The Value of a Human Life: $129,000. In theory, a year of human life is priceless. In reality, it's worth $50,000. That's the international standard most private and government-run health insurance plans worldwide use to determine whether to cover a new medical procedure. Other values such as selling your organs, or your family getting a paycheck if you get KIA in the army.

You decide the value of a human life from your own morals and perspective. The general idea of a 'human life' is this 15 lives > 10 lives children > adults importance (president for example) > commoners

@awesome not a monetary value lol by "value" it's implied that it means more of a ranking, what makes you more valuable then your peers not an actual cash value lol

This isn't my personal opinion, but remind yourself that every part of the human body has a price in the black market business. ~~A gentleman is simply a patient wolf~~
