like i'm confused they're voting to see if people WANT independence, but does the UK have to grant it? :O also why did Scotland wait 100 years for this?

The parliament or council thing in Scotland are voting for their own independence. They're doing this because they feel separate from England in culture and customs. It took them awhile to do this because they don't have a backup plan. England doesn't want them to use their currency (pounds) and European countries don't want them to use their currency (euros). Their economy will struggle at first but after 5-10 years it'll be fine. They just don't have a plan, and they need one. They DO want independence for the most part though.

They actually fought over this 400-500 years ago, but they weren't strong enough, they got far though.
