he plays for the the richest team in baseball. since he began, he has made 307 million in salary (adjusted for inflation). why wouldn't you stick around for nearly 20 years if you're getting paid that much? tony gwynn, who is definitely better than jeter, only made 73 million in salary for 16 years of service for the padres, yet there were no parades and gifts for when he retired

well for one jeter plays in new york and gwynn played in san diego. and the reason for gwynn is he played in a time when players didnt really get paid much

Barry Larkin: .815 career OPS, 118 wRC+ Derek Jeter: .817 career OPS, 119 wRC+ I bet it won't take Jeter 8 years to get into the HOF

@brobro doesn't matter. gwynn was on one of the poorest teams in baseball. even if salaries were lower back when he played, there were still teams that were richer than the padres who were willing to pay tony gwynn big time money.

point is that derek jeter doesn't deserve credit for staying around when he was getting paid the most to do so. if he was on the padres, he would've bolted for the yankees by the time people discovered he was good

It's because he's the captain of the most prestigious ball club in the world, which happens to be in the media capital of the US. If he was in Oakland, Houston, or Tampa Bay. He would be treated like Craig Biggio, respected but nothing coming close to the circle-jerk that's happening right now.
