Why?
Because it would open up the potential to create hat/hair combinations in games that completely remove the clipping issue between the 2.
I'm not going to lie and say that it's an easy update, but I was seriously surprised to have not seen a post suggesting this yet, even after searching for it.
I just think it would be nice to have for aesthetic appeal. (Which is really all solid modelling seems to be at this point, since holes in a cancollide union-part aren't treated as holes, but rather a transparent portion of a standard cubical brick. Unless I've missed an update.)
Just throwing the idea out there to gain an insight into the amount of interest, and allow mods/devs to also see that the interest does exist in some quantity.

People either aren't fond of SpecialMesh, or of Solid Modeling.
Not sure which.

Theres been hoohaa about meshes, and the ability to CSG them.
I guess if ROBLOX were clever kids and devised a form of special "negate" you could negate bits of meshes. |

You can currently negate spheres and cylinders, or fractions of each.
We just can't negate things like hats, which is giving me issues in a game I'm working on.
(I mean, who wants to have spiked hair, put on a half-helm, and have their hair poke through the helm?) |

You COULD code it so it swaps meshes like its squished your hair down... |

That'd work for some, but not all of the helms are meant to completely hide the hair, some are meant to have a little bit of it showing out of the back, sides or something.

Regardless, that isn't the ONLY use of it.
Just incase someone felt like making a giant gun model for looks, it would also allow the builder to take a few spiraling meshes, place them inside of it, and simulate rifling, without having to spend hours on just the rifling. |
