For the past months, I've seen your greatest updates; new materials, animation editor, physics, CSG, new terrain water, BillboardGui, SurfaceGui, and other great stuff created by you.
Now've that we've seen great stuff created by you, I think it's time we take a step forward. You might ask a lot of questions like, 'What are VideoGui's?', 'Where would we implement this at?', 'How would this work?', and 'Why should we implement this?'. I'm going to go over with those 3 topics with you so you'll understand why me and the rest of developers would like for you to implement this into the Object Browser in ROBLOX Studio.
== What are VideoGui's? ==
VideoGui's is a tool that COULD help us out put one of our cartoons, or animation in our GUI's, SurfaceGui's, or BillboardGui's. I think other great developers would agree with me on this because then you wont have to waste your time trying to make animations of GUI's.
== Where would we implement this? ==
In our library! Duh! All you have to do is just add a section called 'Videos' and there you go! We would search for videos that we can borrow or look at!
== How would this work? ==
I've been thinking about this for a long while and I've got a light bulb over my head at last minute. You would have to choose a file/video from your computer and upload it on ROBLOX; just like what we do with audio's! Though, I think you need to give it fair price so everyone doesn't spam click the button, or the moderators would be in trouble! :P
After that process, you would have to get the asset and copy the ID number off of the link, then paste it in our new object, 'VideoGui'. Then all we have to do is click the play button and watch the magic! So this process is a little like audio, but BETTER.
== Why should we implement this? ==
There are so many reasons why we think you should implement this. We could use it for a trailer that a player wants to see for the game. Perhaps an intro? Maybe we would animate our character's face so he could talk during a cutscene or something? And even maybe a sneak peak of something in our game!
== Conclusion ==
We can use this object for almost anything we want if we can imagine it. Now ROBLOX, if you do consider doing this for a later update, that would be GREAT.
If you consider not the time, could you at least bookmark this? That way you could update something that we all want.
Any people that are reading this, please give me your opinion. What do you think? Give suggestions, just in case ROBLOX DOES consider this!
I hope you consider this ROBLOX.

Many have suggested this. I can see it happening.
But Sorcus doesn't summon a fairy to dance on keyboards for 5 minutes and expects updates to fly in. |
|
|
Well, then they'll have to bookmark this if they don't consider.

"@above how?"
Look at Youtube in 2007 on the Internet Archive or whatever its called and see what I'm talking about.
TONS of videos were of TV shows and movies. They all got shot down in 2011.

Well structured, you have my full support!
This would be great for the ROBLOX roleplay people who have things like talkshows on this game, also would implement great and it would also make company's like Kestrel on ROBLOX easier to have conventions, they could make a presentation, put it on YouTube, script a tool so they could put there selected VideoGUI on a block/screen and present it.
Nice! |

Wouldn't ROBLOX go into copyright trouble? If you give a solution, to this I'll give 100000000% support. |
|
|
Copyright trouble for streaming a video?? I doubt it.... |

No support, this would cause major lag and take up server space. |
|
|
I think Roblox would find a way... |

You can already do this, but it takes a lot more time.
But I support anyways |
|
|
why would people use videoguis for shows |
|
|
Perhaps maybe great builders like CARTHAY needs this for his Disneyland Main Street place because I have no idea how the heck he's going to pull the Steamboat Willie theater in Main Street off. Inside, there's some screens of cartoons playing; and I think this would also be nice if we made ourselves a rule video through this process, so people can understand.
Anyhow, this is just an idea for Roblox to go for. |

Good.
Problems:
Copyright
Lag
Lag

Mods could check a suspicious frame.
TAKE DOWN STARBUCKS GROUP OR RIOT! |

@dannyha, if they can let players upload audios from TV, Music, and ect., then I think they can implement this. If you think Roblox won't implement this because of "copyright", then explain to me how the hell they let SOME players use copyright audios.
So don't even take out the "Copyright!" card, because I've been through that argument too many times. |

Am I the only one who thought of putting a videogui on a surface gui? Support, there is no reason this would lag. |

Support.
It will be difficult to moderate though. |

"there is no reason this would lag." We already lag a bit when people say ":Music 2049085", imagine if it was video also which takes up a LOT more space. Videos have to run at 24 fps for them to seem not shaky, to give you an idea that's 24 pictures every second for up to 2 minutes. |

this'd definitely lag, lol
they'd need to do a lot of work before it could be implemented |

Guess what...the game is suppose to run in 60 frames per second. Of course it can handle 24 frames per second videos.
60 frame per second videos will look smoother, however. |

"Guess what...the game is suppose to run in 60 frames per second."
I know, I'm just saying the bare minimum for emphasis.
"Of course it can handle 24 frames per second videos. "
Just answered your own question. |
