As for getting online in pirated games, it all depends on the source. Most games have a license check before going online, and will prevent illegally downloaded games from access.
Although some companies will allow it, though I know for sure EA is not a company that condoned piracy. Many of their games have measurements against it. (Even a legitimately bought used copy of Dragon Age won't let you earn trophies) |

For some games, you can pirate it and play MP, with the main MP engine OR with privately hosted servers. For MW3, Teknogods is a privately hosted server.

CoD really isn't that bad of a game. I've heard the PC versions are terrible ports, though, so that deters me from getting it.
