You are advocating a christian theocracy. Allowing for the celebration of Christmas in school leads to the ostracism of nonbelievers and pressures them to join the cult.

So what if it's celebration of the winter solstice or the birth of JC? Banning the word christmas means no one can discuss anything about it (whatever you want to call it) because it hurts muh feelings.

I am not saying force nonbelievers to abide, I am saying allow students free use of any word--except flagrant ones.

Oh my god shut up seriously. They probably just don't want to accidentally offend somebody. Whatever your opinion on that desire may be, it's not like they're doing it just to oppress Christians. Being told not to say one word is not stripping away your rights, especially since it's somebody else's property and a work environment. Just celebrate at home.

That freaking Jehovie got to stand in the hallway during O Canada, excuse himself whenever we sang "Happy Birthday", and got out of playing at the Christmas concert. (He's playing at our WINTER concert this year.) ~ I like my sugar with coffee and cream ~

@Bota I was given the right to celebrate wherever I please. Back in the 20th century, those that were offended did not vocalize it. They simply moved on.

@Prae It's a professional work environment. If you're in high school, they barely even talk about Christmas in most places. If you aren't, why would you even be on OT?

Why should they have the right to talk about whatever they celebrate and the majority not? if they ban the word christmas they should also ban the word kwanzaa or chanukah

And to add to that, no where did I say I was being oppressed as a believer. I was asking to be permitted the use of a word, that, when I utter it, two people may get offended. Is that too much to ask?

"That's fine. my school banned facial expressions... you have to go see the counselor if you smile." Phrase: off the deep end Example of this phrase: My school banned facial expressions... you have to go see the counselor if you smile.

"Why should they have the right to talk about whatever they celebrate and the majority not? if they ban the word christmas they should also ban the word kwanzaa or chanukah" Because the majority saying it is, again, not a right as I already explained. Honestly, I don't get why OP even cares so much in the first place. "And to add to that, no where did I say I was being oppressed as a believer. I was asking to be permitted the use of a word, that, when I utter it, two people may get offended. Is that too much to ask?" Again, you're not having anything taken away from you by being told not to use one word. It isn't a right. It's not something that's going to make it harder for you to go to school.

I bet they never banned the other holidays, did they? You're still allowed to talk about Hanukkah and Kwanzaa or whatever and be fine. What if you're offended by that?

"Because the majority saying it is, again, not a right as I already explained." So when the minority does it it's right? I would also be alarmed like OP if I couldn't discuss my christmas plans with my classmates.
