This is general stuff, so it's not like i'm saying anything that wouldn't help a new guy in any case whatsoever
1. Lurk before you start posting. See who's who, their posting styles, and what cliques exist in OT before you accidentally associate yourself with people that you will end up regretting doing so
2. Don't be fake as hell. It's tempting to do this, to gain all the precious e-fame that OT can hand out, but reminder such fame is short lived. Don't become a "fad" OTer who has an -ism group and a legion of whiteknights going for you, actually try to become respected and genuine liked in the community
3. It's an internet forum, expect criticism. If you're going to make arbitrary posts and do nothing but use OT as a blog, expect people not to like you, and don't get mad that they do. You can just not completely care about how others feel of you, which i know contradicts #2 but the premise behind that is to not try and plead for others attention and rather to earn it. Even if you kinda do care about it, the last thing you'd want is for the people that hate you is to tell them that they're getting under your skin
4. Be aware of what OT is. People on here range from probably younger than 10 to their mid-twenties, so keep in mind of the person when they post. It's kinda dumb to get mad at a ten year old for saying something a ten year old would say, y'know?
5. Refrain from one-word replies and spam threads and such. It's tempting, and it seems at first that OT really does care about the number underneath your avatar, but again it's indeed a DISCUSSION board and try to treat is as such. Don't care about how being active makes your rep go up, just if you're going to focus and care about anything on OT it should be what you say |

Don't really HAVE to lurk, but I agree, most people should lurk. I've had enough experience in forums before OT that I didn't need it, I'd say this would apply more towards people who are new to the forums as a whole :)

Only thing I dislike about OT in particular is L#Ds in excessive amounts and this BS about "ID gods"

I don't mind people posting L2Ds all that much as I'll just ignore them, but it may make others mad at how his/her thread is bumped off because of a digit thread |
