I can find some American colleges with the cost of around 25000 a year (in state) get a scholarship and work. My father put his homeless self through university why can't you?

man it's annoying me how you guys honestly think everyone should be going to college. stupid people shouldn't be going to college, and, therefore, ought' to stop being reminded of its importance. they're majoring in easy low ROI majors and fueling unemployment and contributing to the debt. major in something with a good ROI and is actually credible, not your major in basketweaving, and college is undoubtedly beneficial.

@AwesomeKillerKevin I agree that you need like a certificate or something like that in a trade school to get a high demand job, but you sure as hell don't need to go to university for 4 years for a worthless piece of paper that everyone else has.

Wow you are really unintelligent. Maybe in 'Murica, but in my country you need high grades to actually get in to university. Also our lower grades are looked at to be 5% higher than america's (by universities)

@ferando "I can find some American colleges with the cost of around 25000 a year (in state) get a scholarship and work. My father put his homeless self through university why can't you?" Why would I? So I can have a useless piece of paper that everyone else has and that more than 50% of all college graduates are unemployed or underemployed? Btw, 25,000 alone is alot to make, you have no idea how long it would take to make that. Second, you didn't count interest on that $25,000, if you count interest, it would go up to $75,000 a year.

you do realize that not everyone is even getting this vague "college graduate pay" after completing college, right? a significant amount of college graduates end up jobless, especially relative to past years when a college degree ensured your success. that's why going to college is important IF you major in something actually worthwhile (unless, of course, you're just filthy rich and can afford to major in underwater basketweaving).

Your better off going to college and being graduated in a needed field such as technology than not going to college at all. Tell me what jobs there are that pay over 55 dollars a hour which don't require going to college?

if you can hold down an engineering degree, you won't have to be worried about being jobless after college whatsoever. if, on the other hand, you get a degree in something like underwater basketweaving or art history, you're contributing to the stupidly high student debt as well as unemployment probably. so yeah, make sure to choose your major wisely.

You don't have to go to college to have a successful life. There are so many other options out there like starting your own business, going to trade school, etc, but in school you are brainwashed to believe that college is the only way you will have success in life.

"Your better off going to college and being graduated in a needed field such as technology than not going to college at all." yes, absolutely, in a NEEDED field. what needs to stop is the surplus of students majoring in underwater basketweaving and mooching off of government resources, which they end up not even paying back usually because they can't even get a job with their nearly-worthless degree. college is only worth going to if you're capable of majoring in something actually meaningful, as those jobs you mentioned are attained by going to college and getting a degree in something worthwhile.

"You don't have to go to college to have a successful life. There are so many other options out there like starting your own business, going to trade school, etc, but in school you are brainwashed to believe that college is the only way you will have success in life" --> You firstly need to 'KNOW' how to start your own business by going to school, if you haven't noticed 'small businesses' aren't doing so good. --> Last time I checked, You actually have to PAY to go to trade school also, if not free for your work place, and even then you don't make alot of money compared to college

@Pimperatos Oh and you think college is a safe ticket for a job? You think that when you get your college degree, you will get your dream job, buy your dream house and have your dream life? College doesn't guarantee anything anymore because everyone has a degree, same as a business. The only difference is that when you spend money on a business, you get money in return. When you spend money on college, all you get in return is more work for a degree that everyone else has. Over 52% of all college graduates are now either unemployed or underemployed.

You don't learn how to start businesses by going to college the majority of the time. I'd venture to say that some electives might have some merit, but college education normally doesn't provide the practical education needed to actually start a business, and, rather, provides a more theoretical, academia sort of education.
