you're an idiot a distributed denial of service attack involves sending packets of data to a router at a very fast rate to the point where it can't process it all, causing it to go slower or even break. proxies and VPNs are good because they take the load of the attack and filter it out, basically: server -> client without proxy server -> proxy -> client with proxy probably messed some of that info up, but that's the jist of it
