"that is the philosophy behind tanking" which is honestly why i hate the NFL draft all american sports leagues reward you for absolutely sucking, but the NFL is the only one where a #1 pick can make you go from 2-14 to 10-6 due to the quarterback position

that's not the only reason. there have been plenty of early pick busts. free agency and the value of late round drafting allows teams to improve substantially from one year to the next

what do you mean there's teams that outright fail at the draft and throw tons of cash at useless players in free agency. the worst to first story is so rare. some teams draft good and sign good, but don't improve at all it happens in all sports leagues, even euro leagues

Many teams regularly draft well and prevent from over-doing their cap, these are the teams that regularly find success. Then there are teams that don't draft well and just throw money out the window (Looking at you, Washington)
