What is the limit I have to really worry about where people would start lagging?
My current project is 255 KB and I didn't think about stopping at all but I realize this is larger than most game sizes. At what point would lag take over? I don't have many looping scripts but I do have a lot of scripts. |

Erm, I would stop at 270.
Lag will be very hard to avoid when it hits 290 - 310 |

Is there a way to minimize the load size? Does grouping objects help? Or fog or some sort of thing? |

*Stares at his 2,789kb save file*
You should be fine.

One of my places is 60,913 KB and it doesn't lag at all. |

@Zech
I really hope youre being serious because I don't wanna stop at all.
I enabled shadows and run it on max settings but still have a steady 60 FPS but my computer isn't a good depiction of average so im terrifed of wasting my time making something roblox cant handle |

How do you get the data size? Saving the place as file?

That being said, I know where you pulled "Lag will be very hard to avoid when it hits 290 - 310" this from, I can't say it, but it's a very smelly place.
Either way, It has more to do with the quality and cleanliness of your scripting more than file size.
If you just have blocks, well then you're fine. I have plenty of 40k+ brick places that run fine.

"How do you get the data size? Saving the place as file?"
Pretty much. |

Try to aim for under 2 MB, around 1.5 MB is when people with not so good internet connection start lagging badly.
For parts, I've stress tested on my awful awful awful laptop (25 mins to download roblox no kidding...) and it can handle 8k parts at 25 fps, so parts aren't much of a problem |

Well the file size really depends on what it's saved as.
rbxlx is raw info and takes up over 10 times as much space.
rbxl is compressed.

"2 MB, around 1.5 MB"
Stop pullin figures outcha bums. |
|
|
Not really out of my bum, just my personal experience with games
Also according to some RBXdev membrs |
|
|
I have a game I did that's currently 14MB... |
|
|
Obviously it can go over 2 MB, but if you want a game suitable for everyone, its not the best idea to go for 20 MB file sizes
that said, it depends what exactly is in your game |
