and you're tasked with expansion for new teams/clubs/franchises, would you go: a) established markets with a taste for the sport, but with a small catchment area/market although it'd be a guaranteed success? b) entirely new market with no real history of the sport, making sure it grows while you run this league. this market however has a big potential market and can make a lot more money than an established market for the sport. because it's a growing league, i'd go with a. i just find the idea of expansion in franchised sports a good debate starter so i'd like to know what you guys think if you were ever in this position.

i'll clarify a lot for people who want to answer this question: 1) it's got 12 teams. 10 from the us, 2 from canada. 2) mexico was annexed by the us so a team in there is an option. 3) the financials for this growing league mean you >COULD< afford a bust expansion franchise.

"1) it's got 12 teams. 10 from the us, 2 from canada." So it's the 2015-16 NASL season?

Excuse me for my tiredness. 2016* NASL season. No such thing as 2015-16.

i honestly have no clue what that is. for a growing sports league with expansion on its mind (based in the us/canada), 12 seemed like a reasonable number.

The NASL is the 2nd tier of North American footy (so it's a tier below the MLS) In 2016 it's going to have 10 US teams and 2 Canadian teams when Miami FC is added. I live in one of the two Canadian markets in the league.
