In case you don't mind giving you old username away for others to use, you have the ability to do so.

I like the idea, but quite a few admin command scripts use username rather than userId which could potentially cause some troubles.

I like this suggestion. Though, couldn't they just come up with their own unique name? So, it wouldn't show it as a previous name on your profile?
