gosh some people do some stupid things sometimes The guy did flop, but doing stuff like tearing up the ref's notebook is just bonehead.

That wasn't a flop, I suggest you look at what happened more carefully. Also, an important note, Cuauhtemoc Blanco got a 2 year ban from the US Open Cup for headbutting a player, so Dempsey could receive equal or worse punishment.
