A thousand years ago, a grand king made a fatal mistake. When he had come to power, he persecuted a number of magic users, on no grounds other than he was afraid of their power. The witches and warlocks under his rule were understandably upset. Those still free began stirring up trouble by infecting livestock with magical diseases, turning valuable wells and rivers into useless mud pits, and hurling curses and jinxes at anyone who crossed their path. What started out as harmless protests soon became much more violent. Witches and warlocks began killing entire villages, and used the blood of the dead to cause their magic to grow stronger, only to start the entire process over again. Eventually, they began attacking the king's family and household. No one suspected much when a scullery maid fell ill, but everyone panicked when the king's daughter was turned into a rat. But one warlock had had enough. Tired of all the fighting, he used all his power to trap the soul of every single magic user into a gemstone - including himself. The king foolishly had the gemstones fashioned into elaborate jewelry, and decided to wear them himself. He wore five of the rings, all at once, along with a brilliant amethyst amulet around his neck. It wasn't very surprising when he was found dead the next day. It looked like the warlocks had gotten their well-deserved revenge on the king after all. The new king declared the gems dangerous, and had them sealed away in a hidden vault so no one would feel the wrath of his predecessor's mistakes. But nothing lasts forever. ---- One thousand years later, a ruthless band of treasure hunters found the vault, and the jewels inside. Their leader wasted no time in trying on several rings, bracelets, and amulets. But when he went to take them off, he found he couldn't. His crew tried their best to remove them, but not even a sledge hammer could dent the golden casing, nor the jewel it held. Within a day, the captain was dead. The hunters pawned off the remaining jewelry, not wanting anything to do with them. The gems made their way around the world, even in most countries, with the souls of the witches and warlocks still trapped inside. ---- As they waited, the souls learned. When they were put on, they still latched to the wearer, and couldn't be removed by anything less than cutting the limb off. But instead of killing the wearer instantly, they fed off of its life force little by little. Of course, the jewelry could slide off if it found its wearer unworthy, but that is rare. A gem has the potential power to crack another, but only if aimed directly and using extremely powerful magic. It can be risky though. There is a 'point of no return' for artifact wearers. After a while, the warlock's soul has drained so much of their energy, it's the only thing keeping them alive. Cracking the gem would kill the wearer as well as the warlock. In exchange for the person's life force, the jewelry gave the user certain powers, such as the ability to manipulate fire, or perform telekinesis, all individual to the warlock soul inside. Of course, the wearer cannot access the warlock's full power, but that's just another price of imprisonment. Oh, and the jewel can actually talk to you as well telepathically. It can also talk to other jewels similar to it, and it can talk to other artifact wearers. How cool is that? Whether you found your gem in a flea market or jewelry store, a museum or on the side of the road, it doesn't matter. All that matters is that you can't get it off. Then there's that little voice inside your head. The little voice telling you that you can read minds, or control water, or something else equally fantastic. You had every right to believe you were going crazy, and eventually, just to get that voice in your head to shut up, you did as it said. It wasn't lying. ---- But you weren't the only one to find an artifact. Others did too. And while some are in the same position you're in, a few of them sought out the warlock souls on purpose. They believe they can find away to free the soul, and bring the warlock back to life. They also think that the warlock will be indebted to them, and serve their commands. This cult has found a few of the artifacts, but they want more, including the one attached to you. It doesn't matter how drastic the measures, they want it off, but they don't care what happens to you. The cult is called The Unbinding. At the moment, it contains roughly 5,000 members. They're not just thugs off the street, however. Certain government officials were greedy enough to join, and as a consequence, what The Unbinding is doing is considered legal within their spheres of influence. They've also managed to con a multi-millionaire or two. Which means funding isn't a problem. If the cult needs two dozen plane tickets to Africa, all they need to do is make a phone call. The point here is: They're not people to be trifled with. And you're in their way. Suggestions 1. From now on we'll call these special jewels, gems, jewelry or whatever, Artifacts. It's just easier that way, at least for me. 2. Remember that the artifacts are, in the long run, killing your human character. Most of the time, they aren't your friends. Your character might be power hungry enough to not want to remove the artifact, but they're gonna die because of it eventually. They won't die immediately, but wearing an artifact definitely won't do any favors for their lifespan. 3. Also remember it's incredibly hard to remove an artifact without the wearer dying, unless the artifact just plain wants to not be on the wearer, in which that case it would literally slide or open off. Even if the human hates the warlock, if the artifact wants to be there, it's not coming off. 4. Don't be afraid to make your artifact a conniving little gemstone. Maybe it 'forgot' to tell its wearer that it's draining his life force very slowly? 5. Don't be afraid to make your character freak out. 6. Of course, a gem has the potential power to crack another, but only if aimed directly and using extremely powerful magic. Just know that not many people would know this, actually, only a few gem wielders would know this. So, if you're trying to kill or harm another gem wielder, or shut down the gem, you won't most likely aim directly at a jewel with nearly all you've got, you would most likely try to kill the host. Rules 1. The RP takes place in modern times. 2. Basic RP rules. Don't be overpowered, don't powerplay, don't metagame. 3. Put at least a little effort in your character sheet. 4. Ask for permission OOC before trying to kill a character, or trying to attempt to shatter another person's artifact. 5. Romance at your own risk. 6. Don't use the, "but it's not on the rules excuse" - more rules might be added later. 7. Please don't be a jerk, or cause too much drama OOC, but you can be a jerk IC. 8. No overpowered magic. 9. If an admin asks you to change something on your character sheet or with any of your posts, please listen. 10. The more powerful the spell, the more it takes out of your character, or the more exhausted your character will feel. If your character uses the artifact's full power, they would likely very much die, so be careful. What's the limit to active magic? Is it just things like controlling elements and telekinesis or can it be expanded to things like mind-reading or conjuring objects from thin air? Seɴpαι нαѕ ɴoтιced yoυ ✔

i think controlling elements, telekinesis and those kinds of things would be fine, mind-reading would be okay but conjuring objects from thin air, changing space and time itself, the ability to instantly kill someone with just a snap of a finger is pushing it

All right, it's just you didn't give any boundaries for what is magic and what's just godmodding. Of course there are TONS of possibilities, is there like a set list of magical abilities or can you just make stuff up and hope for the best? I want to join and have a unique type of magic, so I can be original, but it's so hard to see what's okay and what's not. Seɴpαι нαѕ ɴoтιced yoυ ✔

ah sorry um yeah you can just make up stuff and if it's not like controlling space and time or killing people instantly, or really anything vague that isn't explained at all like "controlling the darkness in people's hearts" it's fine.

Kk Well here's my CS and I hope it's fine Character sheet - Human Name: Jack Sparks Age: 31 Gender: Male Appearance: A fairly small, thin man, Jack has long and pointed fingers and a hooked nose, which he conceals with thick rectangular-framed glasses that sit in front of his light brown eyes. His hair is a dark blond colour and is cut short around the edges, making his ears stick out. Jack also has some short, scratchy stubble. He can normally be seen wearing baggy jogging bottoms and a short-sleeved grey tee. He also has a scar at the top of his nose where someone once punched him and made his glasses cut into his skin. Bio: He grew up in town with his family and was educated in a specialist languages college. Though he paid little attention in class, he has limited understanding of the Italian language and makes trips to Tuscany annually. Jack makes his keep by renting out bungalows that he inherited from his rich grandparents to holidaymakers. She later deemed him unworthy and slipped off, dropping on the floor near Jack's table in a restaurant. He saw it and tried it on before discovering it was stuck. Bio: Lykos, as a witch, was subject to curses by her peers and lived at the edge of some woodland, setting nearby animals on whoever tried to come and find her. She did, however, live with her 'pet' bat and loved it like a son. Relationship with Wearer: Negative - she sees potential in Jack but is constantly frustrated by his unwillingness to obey her instructions, even though he is terrified of her. Character sheet - Human Name: William 'Will' Taylor Age: 17 Gender: Male Appearance: Will could be described as 'forgettable'. If you passed him on the street, you probably wouldn't remember the skinny boy with spiky brown hair, narrow hazel eyes, and a great deal of freckles. It's a look Will's happy to have, since he's trying to stay under the radar. His clothes also reflect his wish for anonymity. He's normally wearing and old pair of jeans, a t-shirt, and a pair of tennis shoes. If it's cold enough, he'll put on a dark gray hoodie. Bio: When Will was 13, his twin brother and best friend, Jacob, died in a car accident. Will hadn't been in the car at the time, but still gets nervous when riding in them. After his brother's death, Will became distant and moody. He pushed his friends and parents away. Which was why his parents were extremely surprised when, nearly four years late, he came home and wanted to speak to them. It turned out he had found a bracelet lying on the ground near a dumpster. He had put it on, but now couldn't get it off. His parents tried everything from bare hands to a crowbar, but nothing worked. In frustration, Will accidentally used his artifact's power: Seismokinesis. He knocked over a vase, and broke a picture frame or two, but nothing too bad. His parents panicked anyway, running out the door. A hurt and bewildered Will packed a bag and left the house. He had no intentions of returning. Word of his outburst got around, and The Unbinding picked up on it. They've been tracking the now homeless boy for a few weeks now. Will suspects something's up, but he's been blaming it on paranoia. Artifact: Lyriad Inventory: Aside from his few clothing items, Will carries a nondescript backpack that contains: a toothbrush, a near empty toothpaste container, a few spares of underwear, a sleeping bag, around seventy dollars in cash, a Swiss army knife, and a lighter. Alignment: Neutral Other: He's had his artifact for a few weeks, enough to learn it has dark intentions. Character sheet - Artifact Name: Lyriad Rivvae Age: He's roughly 1,024, but Will claims he acts like a nine-year-old Gender: Male Type of Jewelry: Bracelet Type of Gem: Kyanite Appearance: The bracelet was fashioned to look like a silver serpent which wraps around the wrist twice before seeming to devour its own tail. Gold details highlight things such as scales and ridges, while a small kyanite gemstone takes the place of an eye. Only Active Magic: Seismokinesis - The manipulation and generation of vibration How was it found?: Will was walking through an alleyway when he spotted something shiny near a dumpster. When he realized it was a valuable looking bracelet, he put it on. Bio: Lyriad was never very interested by the whole 'revenge on the king' thing, preferring just to use his magic for fun. But his older brother was neck deep in the conspiracy, and dragged Lyriad along. As a gemstone, Lyriad's brother telepathically urges him to use his powers for greater goals, but Lyriad is usually too busy trying to find out more about modern pop culture to care. He loves the 'future', and will hop from person to person just to find out more. Once he left his last wearer, his bracelet was thrown out. Luckily, he bounced out of the dumpster and was picked up by another human. He liked Will much better than some of the previous humans he'd met. He decided that the human child would provide him enough life energy to start listening to his brother. Lyriad still hasn't figured out why Will gets extremely annoyed whenever the topic of brothers comes up. Relationship with Wearer: Lyriad likes Will and tries to strike up friendly chats. During one of those chats, Will learned that his life force was being drained, and got upset. Will also blames Lyriad for the fact that he left home. But despite all that, the one reason Will can't stand the talking gemstone is because it has a tendency to tell bad puns.

(I know I've been a huge jerk lately... but this is absolutely amazing, not to mention original) Name: Karen Evans Age: 25 Gender: Female Appearance: Karen is a decent-looking individual, although having a couple flaws here and there. Her hair is a dirty blonde, tumbling down just past her shoulders. Her eyes are a glittering emerald color. Her eyes are a bit larger than normal, and are very slightly almond-shaped as well. She has a thin nose and thin lips. Her stature is a bit shorter than usual for a twenty-five year old, about 6 feet tall. Her body shape is quite slim and she can look as if she's anorexic, but she really just has a high metabolism rate. She wears a dark blue simple t-shirt and jeans with black and pink Nike sneakers. Artifact: Yes, she has an artifact. Inventory: Karen carries an IPhone 4S, a flashlight and some pepper spray. Alignment: Chaotic Neutral. Other: There isn't much else about Karen that is needed to know. Artifact Sheet Name: Aria Verne Age: 29 is when she was locked in the gemstone, so she stayed that way. Her actual age is around 200 years old. Gender: Female Type of Jewelery: Choker. Type of Gem: A red garnet, about an inch wide and an inch tall. Appearance: She looks like a Victorian-era choker, a black band fastened in the back with a deep red garnet set in the front. Only Active Magic: Telekinesis. If this is not allowed, she can control fire instead. How was it found?: Karen found Aria on the side of the street. Getting it checked out at a jewelry store, she was told it was a real garnet and Karen happily worn it, much to the delight of Aria. Relationship with Wearer: Karen is a reluctant acquaintance with Aria, only because she can't get her off. Aria is very wise, but mischevious. Aria tells her things like what Karen should do if she's in a bad situation, for example, and Karen gives her information about the outside world. Aria has not told Karen about the life-sapping.
