The idea:
A new object called 'Fog' that:
1) Acts similar to current Lighting fog system, but would be different in that
2) it would be visible only when parented to a part,
3) and would only be visible within that part.
This new fog object could also be customized using Density and Color values.
What do you all think? How would this be helpful/non-helpful to you? |

Well,
I always thought that the Current 'Fog' system is horrible because:
It is EVERYWHERE in the place, not local/specific places
It doesn't really act like a cloud (That's what fog is, a Grounded-cloud :P)
I Always wanted to be able to have local fog, Imagine:
A Spooky stereotype Graveyard
Driving along a mountain road and encountering a fog, making the path even more treacherous,
A plane flying into a cloud.
Ways to do that.
Particles, (Problem is that it is 2D, and looks that same from Every Direction.
Gui's (Same problem as Above)
And Your idea. I support it.

I like it for when you only need to keep one area foggy, but otherwise smoke would work for something like this. |

@icanxlr8 Actually it won't, as I Explained above. |
|
|
it does work w/ smoke if you can manipulate it correctly and use the settings available |
|
|
Ever heard of the "smoke" object, anyone? |

@Gibbothebee,
This would not achieve the effect I envision.
Example of my vision:
Take a 1x1x1 stud, and make its Transparency 0.9. Now, clone this part 1000 times and create a 10x10x10 cube. If I were to make a single part 10x10x10 in size and parent this imaginary 'Fog' object to it, this would be the effect that you would see. |
|
|
Don't see the point. If you configure smoke correctly, you'll get a similar effect. |

Haven't encountered any problems with the current fog yet, but I probably will since I am building a carwash. Nothing more. |

Particles are limited, in that you can only have so many on screen at once. What I am thinking of, if done correctly, would be the same as parts: You can basically have unlimited, it's just that the more you have, the more it lags. |

Also something I forgot to mention:
The 'Fog' should be spherical when parented to a spherical part, cylindrical when parented to a cylindrical part, cubical when parented to a cubical part, and so forth. |

Support. My opinion goes along with everyone else's.
If every pork chop were perfect, we wouldn't have hot dogs! |

Like I said before Gibbo, you can only have a certain number of particles on-screen before others start disappearing. |
|
|
The problem with smoke (and particles and fire for that matter) is that it is EXTREMEMLY laggy. My FPS drops from 60 to 1 (not joking) when I get near it.
Support, it would be easier to do and more realistic then anything we could do right now. |

No support, it's a great idea, but WAY too laggy. |
