for example my song...creating process, i guess, goes like this: 1. write song. i usually have a week where i'll write a whole ton of songs. 2. refine song and write out a chord progression/tablature for it. i don't typically do all of the refining right away- some stuff doesn't get changed or cut until i sit down to record it. 3. let the song sit for a month or so. this tends to be enough time to work out any minor issues that i might've missed eventually, and to avoid the problem of suddenly hating the song when i get into the whole recording process. 4. record a rough version of the song, usually on my MP3 player. occasionally, this is the final version of the song. 5. if i've gotten through steps 1-4, i sit down, record the song, add some other random bits that sound interesting to me as i'm recording it, and then let it sit for a little while longer (usually a week or two, tops). and then i have a song. how do you create your songs?
