Alright, here's the deal. I leave to go to college in a little over a month. In between music, school (which I'll take seriously, unlike high and middle school), and working in the theatre, I'm not going to have time to play this game or any video games for that matter. I enjoy gaming, but I care about my career a lot more, I'm already going into a risky field (theatre tech) and I need to be as competitive as possible. My dreams are big, and I'm not going to screw them up this time.
I've been playing this game since I was 10 years old and I joined the SF when I was 11. It's dumb, I know, but I grew up on this game, and some of you have really seen it (older SFers will remember the Chriztine years). Although I could look back and get angry at all the time I wasted on here and wonder about all the opportunities I may have let go of because of it, I won't, because in the end, I enjoyed it. All the rage (by myself and others), all the glitches, all the exploiting, all the times I've had bad teammates, I liked it all, and I think that's something special.
As per usual with these things, there's a few people I'd like to acknowledge (in alphabetical order, so there's no favoritism)
Cap- Without a doubt the funniest person I've encountered on here. You've known me a while (I can remember at least to 8th grade) so I kind of have to thank you for putting up with younger me, keep being you, man.
Death- Probably one of the most popular guys on here, we don't have any seminal moments together, but we've always gotten along and I've enjoyed playing with and against you.
Hawks- I hope I don't come off as bragging, but I was just about your only friend on here during The Dashie Times (proper name). No matter what anyone else says, you're a loyal friend and that's all you need sometimes.
Jimbo- Another person I've worked with a lot who's popular with almost everyone else. Like Death, I always enjoy your company and I hope you keep on doing your thing.
Mop- The person who I've grown closest with these 7 years, and I'm pretty sure you've been there since the beginning. We're totally going to that Ohio State game together, and I'll actually keep in touch with you. Benis.
Rune- I may be closer with Mop, but us two have the most history. Again, you've seen the worst of me and I'm glad we got to spend all the time we did together. Good luck with whatever sport you're playing now (it changes a lot, man).
The STL Crew (Obby and Ale)- Well, we're from St. Louis, that's about it, you guys are both real cool, too.
Wist- My partner in crime for the past year or so. I don't think I can count how many teams we've been on together, it's been fun.
So as I look back, I have a few small regrets, I only ever won one Championship (2009 IRHL Iceberg Cup), and I wish I'd won more. I also never got a successful league going (RSA, RIFA, SFIO, SFKWS, RPBL, a lot of others) and it's too late to do it now. One thing I think I can do in the next month is get an actual new sport made on here, I've tried before and failed but I have an idea now and I want some help. If it works I'd love to have someone run the league when I'm gone (and maybe give me some updates, I'll have a few minutes of extra time).
Now, onto some sage advice from me, who's really underqualified, but whatever. Always try to see things from the other side, never assume you're right, don't be afraid to admit you have some personality faults, we all do, own up to your mistakes, it'll make things easier. However, the best piece of advice I can give to you is the International Thespian Motto, "Act well your part, there all honor lies."
And, with that, my tenure here comes to a close. My last day on this game will be Wednesday, August 19, one month from tomorrow. My life is turning away from a lot of things that have defined me for the past 18 years, this game included. I can't be hesitant to move forward, there's some things I have to do, and leave is one of them. Thank you all, it's been a wild ride. |
