okay, so there's the thing with the three monkeys
"speak no evil"
"see no evil"
"hear no evil"
and they're covering their mouth/ears/eyes
what if the story that they came from was wrong and these three monkeys are actually gods/divine beings disguised as people
so there's a random blind person, deaf person and mute person walking around the planet, blessing the good and cursing the bad as they live. some of the blessed get supernatural powers (not sure what sort) so that they can help enforce good, and the cursed have terrible luck, are disabled, plagued etc. etc. etc.
but the gods have to come into physical contact with the people they bless and curse, but upon contact all knowledge of their existence is passed on, meaning the cursed know there are gods around cursing people like them. they get pissed off and start trying to find and attack the gods, but the good people try and defend them and it turns into like a giant war between the blessed and cursed
of course powers would be nerfed tho
