I hope you enjoy this rant...
Why so many Development groups!?
Sure, I get the pretty obvious more people equals less work per the individual, spread the workload, get things faster etc but it's got to a point of pure madness now.
People seem to seriously believe they won't be able to develop ANYTHING without setting up their own Development group.
You've got these peeps (In the development sense) with no idea how to make a game, setting up their Development groups left, right and centre. These people expect others to, in effect make the game for them while they sit there with their great creative vision while others put it into action. Do these people really think this is going to happen?
In my experience Development groups can slow down the whole process, turning it into a muddle of confusion with people pulling into different directions with opposing ideas. Only for the owner of the group to suddenly decide it's not going to work or become inactive and the group is hut down, the project lost.
Of course, it's not as if Development groups have come out of nowhere, people look at the success of groups like Mad Studios and aspire to follow in their footsteps. But the reality is, what it seems to me anyway, is that sure you can set up a development group, but the only real chance you have of success is if you have a really strong vision of what you want and you're able to make sure others will follow you with that vision AND you are a really skilled developer.
Which brings me to my point, if you're that good at development, do you really need a group in the first place? I sure don't believe you do.
Phew, rant over.
If anybody does take the time to read all this, please let me know what you think, and tell me of any stories you know of Dev teams, success and failure.

Tl;Dr There's no need to make your own Dev group, please just work on your own or with a friend! |
|
|
I usually just develop games on my own.
Though, every now and then I'll join a dev group for the fun of helping people out. (Plus a little money.) |

Bump.
Lemme know what you guys think. Pl0x |

I will say this from a guy that owns Dev Group.
I think many people don`t really understand what is the point of a group. My groups are never set to become massive, or famous. They are mainly used to link a couple of people together. Using the same selection of people on multiple games. Some are scripters and some are builders. That mix and match keeps a similar style, yet prevents any of our games from becoming repetitve.
Now saying that, I do know some people are just making with the idea of getting others to do all the hard parts and using the group payouts to get the currency for that. I completely disagree with that, and that should be stopped.
Thats my mini defence :P |

Spelling Mistake: You said "become inactive and the group is hut down". |
|

I sorta agree. The dev group I am in all of our members are great friends with each other and the owner does most of the work. |

Development groups should only be used in Big projects that could take a very long time to create. Or else its can for sure slow the progress.
So I do not recommend doing Studios
Unless you already done a game which is appreciated by majority
(Means a good game overall)
personally. I own my Studio and I've got my own System with the others Developers.
Once they are available, I give them a Request of what I want (Building, Scripting or Designing) Something that could save me some times and that could be a additional model for the game, then trading up the model for robux.
If you give a request demand too big, chances that the worker couldn't done it increases (unless rly motivated lmao)
Robux is also a big motive for development collaborators
Often telling them "reward of robux increase if the quality is good" |

Personally I find development studios useful for doing things you do not know how to do.
I can build advanced things but I do not know how to script at all. |
|
|
I think a dev group should be at most 2 people, the other being someone you know very well.
For instance, a builder and a scripter. Being friends prior def helps. Plus, lets be honest. In most games its much more a feat of scripting than building |

WHY NO MORE DEVELOPING GROUPS!!!
OK, FIRST STYLIS STUDIOS MADE THE BEST GAME OF 2015 ON ROBLOX!!!
SECOND, WHEN THEY INTERVIEWED THEM THEY THEMSELVES SAID THAT
IT WAS GOOD TO HAVE A TEAM!!!
YOU SHOULD ALWAYS BE IN A GROUP FOR DEVELOPING PEOPLE!!! |

i mean
dev groups are ok
if the members can actually get something done.
the studio im in currently has been through a long history of inactivity. we probably spent about 2-3 years doing nothing with 20 developers who were completely new to what they were doing. only recently have we actually done something (with a small amount of developers)

I don't believe in development groups until your game has been successful, then maybe, but in reality its more of a fanclub. |
|
|
|
The only reason I started my Dev group was because I made ~2.7k of untaxed R$ but I was NBC and got taxed 90R$ and I was getting 15 people on at a time so I made a dev group so funds would always stay were I get 70% in group funds, I can easily pay people and its easier to manage when a game is in a group. |

Wait, I posted this in July 2015, it's still getting responses? |

I do say from a developer point of view to make a group and put the money in it and effort it is risky because the other developers you don't know them they can play you and end up using the work they did for you and sell them to other developers to make some Robux and then when people will play the game they will say I so that model before that's a Free Model!!
But if you have the right group and the right people with the right experiences the group will be very helpful because the load on a player will not be a lot because the work will be spreed
I think some developers are scared of how much worked they need to put in so they will try to do a group to at least remove some load off them

What if they are good devs but the problem is that it will take took long of time and have others things but really want to focus on that one game |

I'm done with development groups, I've had some experiences and they weren't too great. Last dev team I joined was very inactive and there was no proof needed that you could build or script. All you had to do was message the owner on Discord and you could wreck the entire project within an hour.
oh yeah and this is pretty much every wannabe mad studio group in a nutshell, very accurate
