I find it really frustrating when I'm creating a new group and find that the name I want has been taken by a group with 0 members and has been disused for the better part of two years. I have an idea how to make this system better. I play a web-based game called 'Nationstates', where you basically run a fictitious country and roleplay as it. When creating a new nation you can take names of previous accounts, so long as they have disused for a certain period of time. In the case of larger nations which are now disused, the wait time is longer (say, 5 years for some large nations) or in the case of extremely large nations you may not be able to take the name. My proposal is for account names have this system, but based off of profile views. Similarly, with groups the system would be based off of the largest amount of players that were once in a group. Therefore, more names will be freed up from inactive alt accounts and failed group experiments.

"group with 0 members" Then take it over, there is no owner. Also i didn't even know this was an issue, i had no idea that when making a group the name can't be taken already.

In the case of some groups, there are groups where there is no owner, with 0 member and the manual approval setting is on. Thereby, nobody can join. This is popular amongst some clans to take disused groups and say something on the lines of "Group taken over by Empire X, join us!". There is also the occurrence whereby a group has no owner, manual approval, but still members in the group- but none of them have BC. This is quite a big issue, hence why there are more groups that have added characters, such as "[{Kingdom}]" as opposed to just writing "Kingdom", as the name has already been taken.

First-come, first-served. You just want a free namesnipe at someone else's disposal. No support

First-come, first served- and then quit your group and let it rot? People should be allowed to be creative and the fact that there are so many groups and names that have been taken and then never used again. I personally do not want to 'namesnipe' anything, I'm quite content where I am, thank you very much. However, in the process of making groups I have encountered this problem and noticed my friends also have had this problem in the past. Simply put, there are many good names being put to waste by their disused for the years of inactivity each has endured.

"People should be allowed to be creative and the fact that there are so many groups and names that have been taken and then never used again." If you were creative, you'd find a way around your first world problem. You're welcome very much.

A random example. I have no intentions of having an alt or setting up a new account, but assume I do. I quite fancy naming myself after Winston Churchill. http://www.roblox.com/User.aspx?id=3084738 This account was last on at 5/15/2009 9:50 PM This account has been disused for 6 years. Why should the name remain disused? A new player could use the name, so long as the previous owner was not significantly famous, based on profile views.

Like I said before, you just want a namesnipe at someone else's disposal. That person could easily log back in after years and see that his account name was taken by a greedy wannabe namesniper previously named AlexanderAbendroth. It's not that person's problem that they signed up before you.

I personally have no desire to make any new groups or accounts, hence this is not relevant to me. If I was needed to be more creative, as you put it, I would do as probably done by many: "This is quite a big issue, hence why there are more groups that have added characters, such as "[{Kingdom}]" as opposed to just writing "Kingdom", as the name has already been taken." It makes no sense to NOT have this rule. Take a famous company in real life. East India Company- conquered India for the British Empire. In 2006, the copyright was bought ( as the copyright had expired) and is currently used to sell quaint biscuits. This is creative and useful, as people can create new out of the dead, effectively.

Guess what. This isn't real life. People don't have expiring copyrights on usernames.

Please provide constructive criticism instead of snarky comments. I am fully aware this is an internet forum. I am just giving an example of the effectiveness of copyright expiration as an example of how this would work. To give an example in terms of another game, as I first mention, Nationstates does this extremely well.
