You hear all these soldiers talking about how great it was to be in the military. They have never experienced war. Even during combat deployments in the recent middle eastern wars, soldiers in active duty combat were fighting guerrilla warriors. The United States has had absolute tactical advantages in pursuing and hunting down these guerrillas. The perils of this military occupation are very real but dwarf in comparison to what a real military conflict would be like. I would liken the recent U.S. conflicts to a group of school yard bullies picking on a much younger child who is ill equipped to defend themselves.
But if the USA ever gets involved in another real military conflict (like WWII) between a nation equipped to defend itself and the absolute tactical edge and military dominance are gone then that is what it is like to truly go to war. |

The current police actions partaken in military occupations of the middle east are not akin to real combat in which an equally equipped enemy is capable of fighting (like if Russia and the USA went to war.) |

if we don't join, who's going to protect us, eh? |

Not everyone is going to heed my advice. Some will call me unpatriotic and cowardly. They'll enlist because they want to play commando. They'll think their nation is the greatest on Earth and can fight off any enemy combatants because they do not know that real combat hasn't been fought since the days of World War II. |

Aggressively occupying the middle east and unilaterally dominating the region with only guerrilla forces trying to fight you off is not realistic of a real military conflict.
If the USA and Russia went to war then the soldiers wouldn't be so gung ho about being the best military in the world. That would be real combat. |

" that real combat hasn't been fought since the days of World War II. "
this is some good bait
just remember that the viet cong's tactics of spike pits wasn't anything
or the chosin reservoir where soldiers suffered massive casualties against a massive chinese army.
how about humans who would kill themselves so a group of you can be forever injured
real combat hasn't been fought since world war two my ass.

@Mistertaken your ad hominem attack is not a valid rebuttal of my premise. You clearly lack the intellect to analyze my argument and come up with a logical reason as to why I am incorrect. You seem just like the type of subservient animal the military is looking for to mindlessly take orders and shoot people. |

Have you ever been in warfare? Or are you just taking this from what other idiots say?

People are allowed to do what they want. Instead of downplaying what these soldiers do, how about we celebrate them and be proud of them. They're risking their lives to protect us, and deserve recognition and gratitude. |

america has the best military in the world, its a fact. just look at the statistics honestly, and before u say "NONE HAVE SEEN REAL BATTLE BESIDES HUNTING DOWN TERRORISTS" uh same goes for literally every other country almost. its not like we have massive battles anymore like ww2 or ww2 trench battles. not2mention; you say soldiers bloat and say how amazing it was, truth it they dont (omg when i typed that it reminded me of frank underwood!!) especially the ones who've been in actual combat. |

it's not like that many other countries have more battle experience
wow russia, much annexing, very hard |

This kid pretends like 99% of the people in the military didn't pay attention to history in the slightest.

I mean, this guy has a certainly valid point. Bigger nations would pose some threat, but not much. Ultimately, if some country has plans on attacking the US, they have a death wish. America has the best tactical forces, the best supplies, and the best overall force. Patriotism will always keep new members joining. I do realize that Russia has some power, but it isn't much compared to the States. Besides, there isn't too much of a reason to go to war at the moment, to be honest. |

The thread is getting too heated so I am not going to post on it anymore. |

If the US was ever attacked by another prominent country, such as Russia, the US would retaliate with full force. Patriotism would skyrocket, and military recruitment would soar as people wished to get revenge on on the aggressor. That's the one thing the US can always count on- a tremendous outpouring of support for the country in times of turmoil. |

But without the military, who will protect our country from attackers? |
