Lets start off with basic drill commands. Center Face: Look in the direction you were originally facing. Common Trainee Mistakes: - Think it means look at the host (it doesn't). Common Trainer Mistakes: - Say "center" or "face me" instead of "Center Face". - Confuse Center Face with Attention (not the same thing). Right Face/Right Turn: Make a 90 degree turn to the right. (At R.P.D we say Right Face only) Left Face/Left Turn: Make a 90 degree turn to the left. (At R.P.D we say Left Face only) Common Trainee Mistakes: - Right Face means turn right not face the right wall. (Same goes for Left Face) - You must turn right by your perspective not the perspective of the host. - Simply don't know the difference between left and right. Common Trainer Mistakes: - Say things like "right" or "turn right" instead of Right Face. - Say thing like "left" or "turn left" instead of Left Face. About Face: Make a 180 degree turn so you are facing the opposite direction. Common Trainee mistakes: - Think it means face away from the host. - Think it means face the back wall. Common Trainer Mistakes: - Say "about" instead of "About Face". Right Incline: Make a 45 degree turn to the right. Left Incline: Make a 45 degree turn to the left. Common Trainee Mistakes: - Host says Right Incline, you turn right 45 degrees, host then says Left Face, you turn left 45 degrees. (You must still turn 90 degrees even if already at an angle) - Confuse Left/Right Face with Left/Right Incline. Common Trainer Mistakes: - Aren't sure if the trainees are facing the proper direction due to not keeping track. Attention: Look at the host (quite simple). Is usually said when an HR commanding lower ranks has instructions to give. Common Trainee Mistakes: - Attention requires you to look at the host and continue looking at him/her even if they move until he or she says otherwise (some people don't do this). Common Trainer Mistakes: - Never explain the difference between Center Face and Attention to lower ranks. Drill Training Tips: - Always explain to someone what they are doing wrong when they do it. - Always double check with your self if they are doing it wrong (don't make yourself look like a fool). - Always explain to new ranks what the commands mean.
