Welcome to the inaugural MLS Roundup! I will talk about the weekday and Saturday games, preview the Sunday games, and post highlights and the top stories from the day. Current Standings: /peDaV 9/30/15 - Philadelphia 1 (6) - Sporting KC 1 (7): -In an epic shootout that fought to the finish, Sporting KC came out on top to win the US Open Cup title and clinch a spot in the CONCACAF Champions League, well deserved. The game was a thriller, and an instant classic in the hearts of fans everywhere, drawing nearly ~350k viewers on ESPN. This was Philadelphia's second straight trip to the US Open Cup title game, and their second straight loss. 10/2/15 - DC United 2 NYCFC 1: -One of DC's biggest crowds of the season (over 21,000) got to witness one of their most exciting games of the season, as Alvaro Saborio got the winning goal in stoppage time to snatch victory from Lampard and NYCFC. As the playoffs are starting to heat up, this was a huge win for DC United as they hope to clinch top 2 seed and a BYE, while also being a devastating loss for NYCFC who was holding on for dear life. They have almost no chance at making the playoffs now. 10/3/15 - Toronto FC 3 Philadelphia Union 1: -Coming off their loss to SKC during the week, Philly had tired legs and frankly, TFC is just the much better team. It was the classic Toronto performance, Giovinco, Osorio, Bradley, and Altidore doing their thing up top while the defense concedes a goal. TFC moves closer to the playoffs, and if they win their next game, they will actually be in a top 2 seed. Pretty impressive for a team that has never made the playoffs in their existence. 10/3/15 - NYRB 2 Columbus Crew 1: -In a battle of Eastern Conference heavyweights, NYRB was able to come out victorious this time, while also taking a stranglehold on the Supporters Shield, which goes to the MLS team with the most points. 2 goals from Englishmen Lloyd Sam and Bradley Wright-Phillips moved them up to 51 points in 30 games. They'll definitely have a BYE heading into the playoffs. Could this be the year they finally win an MLS title? 10/3/15 - Orlando 2 Montreal 1: -Perhaps the biggest game of the week, Orlando stole a MASSIVE victory from Montreal in front of a raucous crowd to keep their playoff hopes alive. It was defender Seb Hines who got the winner in the 80th minute to give Orlando 41 points in 32 games. For reference, they are one spot out of the playoffs, and that spot belongs to Montreal, who has 42 points in 30 games. These final games should be interesting, but Montreal controls their destiny. 10/3/15 - Chicago 3 New England 1: -New England will want to forget about this one, as a sloppy affair with slips, tumbles, and poached goals got the Chicago Fire a 2-goal victory at Bridgeview. After taking a 1-0 lead thanks to Juan Agudelo in the 31st minute, mistakes did the Revs in and Gilberto capped things off with a very strange, pinball-like goal in the 86th minute to double the Fire's lead. They are the worst team in MLS this season, but the Fire have newfound hope after firing their manager and hiring one of the best GMs in the United States. They are currently looking at Miguel Herrera as their coach, who just a couple months ago was the head coach of the Mexican National Team. 10/3/15 - Portland 0 Sporting KC 1: -While Philly felt the effects of a midweek game, apparently SKC didn't get the memo. An amazing goal by Krisztian Nemeth awarded KC a HUGE victory, and one that will almost ensure them a playoff berth. Meanwhile, for Portland, things are not looking too good as they are in poor form and San Jose is tied with them on points right now. Portland does have a game in hand, though. 10/3/15 - San Jose 1 Vancouver 1: -San Jose would've liked more points out of this game, especially being at home and with a daunting remaining schedule, but they'll take the draw against one of the best teams in the MLS. Check the standings to see the full playoff race. Sunday games (10/4/15): FC Dallas vs Houston - The Texas Derby is always a big one, and while this doesn't have huge playoff implications, you know these teams are going to be at each other's throats. (ESPN2 5:00 EST) Colorado vs Real Salt Lake - Another rivalry, the Rocky Mountain Cup. Both these teams are at the bottom of the western conference table, but it's sure to be interesting. (FS1 7:00 EST) Seattle vs LA Galaxy - This is the high profile game of the week. Two of the most flashy teams in the MLS, if you're going to watch a game, watch this one. It's going to be epic. (FS1 9:30 EST)
