the most relevant ooc i've posted in months does anyone have any tips for stories? in particular, sticking with them? i think that, while i sure as hell ain't the best writer, i'm generally fair at writing. the problem is, though, i always end up giving up on the story. because i have this concept for a story but im afraid of abandoning it hide yo kids, and hide yo wifi! - the name of my friend's internet

I suggest writing a story about something you are very passionate about. Something that you really like and can be creative with. Then the story will go on and on depending on your imagination.

I've never actually attempted to make stories again after several tries. But usually, sticking with them is quite hard. It would take a significant amount of dedication to it. You could find a purpose for you to keep going, such as people who adore your stories or something else. It depends on the situation.

wow i never thought i'd see the day someone helpful strolled into this thread and i do write about things that i'm passionate about[mostly fantasy and scifi], but the issue is as the story goes on i begin feeling self conscious and lazy and just stop writing the story all together hide yo kids, and hide yo wifi! - the name of my friend's internet

I get that feeling too. But what you need is something to keep you motivated on writing and finishing the story. Every once in awhile you should ask people for some feedback so you can know what parts to keep and which parts to change. It will make the story more interesting for people to read. Tips: •When you start to become bored, ask yourself, "What else might happen here?" Find a twist you hadn't thought of, and write that. That's what keeps a story going, and it will leave people on a cliffhanger saying to themselves, "Whoa, I wonder what happened." or "I did not see that coming!" •Also, write shorter stories that you can finish before boredom overwhelms you. Long stories are good, but it can take a lot of time and when you eventually finish the audience might be gone by then. I Hope this helped and made a little sense.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_WBhKqX_EeI Just a summary from that video: It's really easy to say you're going to write your story. However, once you realized the number of sacrifices that will be made and struggles you'll encounter, it will be very intimidating. For that, you'll most definitely give up or slack off for the most part. Since you're trying to write a lengthy story, try to make a small and manageable goal. Instead of telling yourself to create an entire story, tell yourself to write chapter one, outline your story, or perhaps write ten pages. Be specific amongst these goals. Also, try to add due dates. When will A/Z release me from their hell? :-:

yeah uh tbh i shouldn't be the one to give advice but from what I have been trying to do just don't care about the quality while you're writing it. that's for editing later on when ur already finished and done and its all out I mean like you should always strive to improve but u shouldn't let thoughts of "omg this might suck" stop you, because I did constantly and I never got things done. your first priority is to just do it and get your ideas and everything on paper.
