The Paladin continues guiding you through the streets until you come to a gate, similar to that which you walked through upon entering the city. Two fully armored guards stood outside with large poleaxes in hand.
"Hold!" One of them barked.
"What business do ye have with the Thane?" The other asked suspiciously.
"Paladin Elizabeth Turvin of the Maker's Light; We need to see the Thane on urgent business."
"Oh? Does he know yer coming?"
"No..." she said slowly. "It's about The Sundering."
The guards looked as if about to laugh, but then paused and gave her a curious look, surprised that the words had left a Paladin's lips. "You said you're a Paladin?" They asked.
"It's urgent... Let us through, now." She demanded, causing the guards to jump and begin to open the gate. "Keep your hands off your weapons." They said as you passed, one of them eyeing your crossbow as you continued towards the impressive sized fortress ahead.
"Main hall will be right through that door." The Paladin whispered to you. |

I walk past the guards, rolling my eyes at the one staring at my weapon. Looking away, I continue onwards with Elizabeth.
"Right," I whisper back, "which one of us is going to be doing the talking?" |

Elizabeth smirks and lights punches your shoulder, then proceeding with you into the large stone hold. The path you walked was lined with a bright green carpet, appearing as if made of silk, as prepositious an idea as it seemed. Continuing forward, the Paladin stops as you come to a small set of stone stairs, then bowing down to the sightly aged, though still fearsome, man seated above you.
"Thane Evrand." Elizabeth said respectively.
"More cultists lurking in my halls, Paladin?" The Thane asked in a dry, sarcastic tone. "Rise, rise; There is no need for formalities. What brings you to my hall?" |

Hmph. "Behaving" and "kissing-up-to" aren't the same thing, are they? No, no, they're not. I remain standing on my two feet, looking up at Evrand.
"The smell of smoke and flame. Your investments and villages are burning, but I'm sure you already knew that. They will continue to burn, because nobody has any real idea as to why they're burning. But, me and Liz here, we have a clue. We're willing to help solve your "little" problem, provided you give us a bit of coin, and allow us to borrow your Magister." |

Elizabeth's face turned to stone as she struggled not to make a noise at your comment. Staring up at the Thane, he looks at you for a moment before laughing loudly.
"Your friend is a bold one, Paladin. My Magister, you say? What is this about?"
"The... Sundering." Elizabeth said, struggling to form the words. "We believe it's real, and we havee proof we wish to show your Magister."
"Oh, very well. Guard...Fetch Havron this instant."
The guard nodded and quickly ran off, soon reappearing with a complaining mage in tow.
"What is this about?" he asked, or rather, demanded.
"Can you summon an Ash Fiend and control it?" She asked him.
"Well, yes, of course. Why-"
"Do it."
The magister looked up at the Thane, who then nodded at him. Havron began waving his arms and uttering strange words, then an Ash Fiend appeared before him.
"If we kill it, he disappears, right?" She asked him.
"Yes, of course. Why? What is this about?"
"This." She said, tossing him the fiend's eye.
"What is-" he began to ask, then blinking and holding the gem up to the docile ash fiend. "How did you get a physical eye?!" He demanded quickly. |

"She picked it up in our shop," I say, turning away from Havron and looking at Evrand, "after we killed two Ash Fiends that came out of Riverdale. The news has arrived to you about Riverdale, right? Smoldering ash, ash just as physical as that eye." |

The Magister looks at you and nods. "Aye, we heard about Riverdale. No survivors to confirm any cause, though... Only rumors." He said, staring down at the eye before looking to Elizabeth. "What exactly does this mean?"
"We were hoping you could tell us. The Burning Void can physically enter our world is all I can say, and I hate doing so."
"This is... something else. Do you know how the fiends got here? Was this the magic of a Magister, or of the Void itself?" |

"They? This Magister was able to conjure multiple ash fiends?" he asked you skeptically. "While it brings me relief that they were indeed summoned, it worries me what kind of power this man yields. What you faced what physical, that much is apparent. Who was this man? What was his technique to summon these creatures?"
"Where did he bloody go?" The Thane demanded in turn. "You want coin? You have your chance to earn it." |

I ignore the Court Magister. I didn't know enough about magic to accurately describe any kind of techniques.
"He probably ran off to go burn down more of your villages," I tell Evrand, "if Liz and I follow the fire, we're sure to find clues leading to that Magister. Only two things remain then: name your price, and do you want him dead-or-alive?" |

The Thane begins to scratch at his chin, opening his mouth as a loud crack suddenly resounded through the room, echoing violently off the walls and shaking the tapestries that hung upon them.
"The bloody void was that?" The Thane demanded.
"Can't be good..." Havron added, pulling his staff out as every torch and candle in the room whisked out, bathing the hall in darkness.
With a roar, a large doorway of fire appeared shortly behind you and Elizabeth, brightening up the entire hall as a large figure made of pure fire stepped out of the portal. Standing easily taller than anyone in the room twice over, the figure pointed out its arm as a dark blade and shield appeared, black armor materializing on its chest and various body parts, making it appear more human-like despite being pure fire.
"This world will be burnt to assshhh" the figure roared demonically. "Lord Pyrilis shall walk upon the burning carcasses of all mortals."

This again? Well, there's a silver-lining. This beast should scare some sense into Evrand. He'll see this Sundering first hand, and he'll be more willing to cough up the cash. It's always good to look at the bright side of things.
