Chargers are 29th in NFL in QB passer-rating against. Expect the Chiefs to test their secondary and throw with Smith quite a bit. He's a good starting candidate this week, his ceiling is as high as ever, but he has a pretty low ceiling to begin with.
That said...
Romo presents an interesting option. He knows the Cowboys need to win, they haven't won since he was healthy, and his matchup against the Dolphins is as good a matchup as you're going to get with him the rest of the way. Romo is high risk-high reward this week, and I'd say he is more likely to bring big rewards.
Alex Smith is a very safe pick, he'll provide solid points against a bad Chargers pass defense, but if you want big points to bring out a big win, go with Romo, though the risk is there.
