An RP about the Heimaey disaster. Heimaey is an island off the coast of Iceland that, in 1973 on January 23rd at 1:00 in the morning, experienced a horrible volcanic eruption that covered the main town in ash and lava, mostly. The RP starts the day before in the town. The characters go to sleep then are awoken by the rumbling, crackling noises. They must escape the town using the harbor before it's destroyed or they die.

RPs that revolve around one particular natural disaster, especially one that only affected a single town and isn't memorable or significant, don't usually work very well.

Ah, you've got me. One thing though is that the Heimaey disaster actually is a popular one, even though it happened a while ago.

I didn't say anything about popularity, I said it's neither memorable nor significant. It probably won't be remembered by people many years into the future, and it had no massive wide-spread effect on the world. But, memorable, significant, popular, or not, it still really wouldn't work. I can't imagine people being able to roleplay much besides "I run to the water and hope I don't die," or "I run to the water and hope I don't die, also something about my wife and kids."
