Part 1: Character Creation
As you look upward, into the clear glass ceiling that separates the interior of the Middle-Undertown elevator from the vertical tunnel leading to the surface, you can’t help but ruminate (what with the wait) on your past. You saw each domino falling, all bringing you (in turn) to this point. Circumstances being so dire, it’s hard not to wonder “Why exactly did I sign up for this expedition?” and your train of thought begins with your parents…
Who were they?
A. I was raised by my father, a wealthy man who made his money as an Ondertrekker. My nanny actually did most of the raising, Father was often spelunking the caverns under the Kalahari desert and spent little time at home. My mother died during childbirth, and he never spoke of her.
B. I’m an orphan, and I don’t know my real parents. They just left me at the orphanage’s door.
C. I was born into a big Irish family. Ma and Pa weren’t rich, but we didn’t starve.
D. My pedigree is long and storied, and I can trace my lineage back to the first settlers of the United States. My family was the closest thing New York has to nobility.
E. I grew up in Mutant Town. I’m relatively human-looking, even for an Éitreach. My parents were mid-level bureaucrats who spoke several different mutant languages, pidgins, and dialects (in addition to English). I grew up speaking them as well.
First to three votes decides parentage. |

Another bump. If I get no more votes, I'll just go with whatever has the most. |

Yes, your parents (though mutants) were relatively human looking. Your mother was indistinguishable from from the average aboveground woman, save for the extra eye on the front of her neck, under the chin. She kept it concealed with high-necked clothing, and claimed that it couldn’t see in the traditional sense. Your father’s skin glowed in the dark, but was fairly normal otherwise. That’s typical for an Éitreach: mostly human, save for some flaws which (though usually harmless) marked you as lesser to the surface-dwellers.
You inherited neither of your parent’s hideous deformities, but you were born blind in one eye. This eye’s whites turned green later, and you found that through it, you could detect temperature at a distance (+Thermal Sight). It went relatively unnoticed in Mutant Town, where people typically looked even more outlandish. People thought it was weird, though, when you first visited Groundtown, New York…
Why and when did you first go to the surface?
A. It was as a child. My parents brought me to a party at the Mayor’s Mansion…
B. I was a young adult, and (because my parents always had greater plans for me) I was registering at Columbia University. It was the first year they were allowing mutants to enroll…
C. I was a rambunctious child, and I once managed to sneak onto the surface-bound elevator…
First to three, same as last time
