I opened my laptop, and right away smoke spiraled from it. It seems fine, but... Obviously, smoke coming from your laptop isn't exactly normal.

Perhaps I should add that it was quite a minimal quantity, but still.

Tricky. Does it have working fans? Was it near water? How's the battery?

Nowhere near water. Definitely has working fans, and the battery should be fine. But just about ten minutes ago, possibly less or more, it suddenly shut off and released another jet of smoke. It happens every time I try turning it on, too, so I'm going to leave it for now. Currently why I'm typing on mobile right now.

Huh. I'd definitely check the battery just to be sure, and make sure there's space under the laptop so that the fans can actually do their thing. They can malfunction if you rest the laptop on a cushion or something becsuse the fans are useless. Either way, get it checked, toasted Bookington wouldn't smell good.

give it a long telling-off about how bad smoking is.

Uh, yeah, definitely getting this checked out. I tried turning it on and it actually displayed a sign of life without smoke, but it soon turned off and I can't even get the light hat signifies that it's been started to turn on.

This kind of thing has happened to my old laptop, it means that it is overheating internally, with possible dust peeling the circuits off.. You will likely need to either replace it completely, or replace the entire motherboard.

I will end up doing one of the two for sure.

Something similar happened with my old laptop. I got a new laptop and blew my old one up in an explosion involving a glass of water and a battery. It was awesome. Brea, bûter en griene tsiis is goed Ingelsk en goed Frysk

I'd recommend getting someone to back up your files and just getting a new one, motherboards are nearly as expensive as the laptop themselves, and so you might as well get an upgrade.

It's the internal battery. This has happened to me before. The trick is, the protective cover over the battery has to be penetrated to release the heat. To do this, simply poke a few wholes with a knife, and the heat will escape, than just place the battery back in.

Lol Pruz. It's true, though! Maybe the other boards would have a place for this.
