Detroit is expected to pay a total of $177.2M according to BB-Ref, I don't think they continue to hit the free agent market for the big name players and find someone who can be more consistant then Cespedes. I'm a Mets fan and what I saw for those 6 weeks after he was traded were absolutely awe inspiring, but once pitchers figured out to pitch away to him, he looked lost up at the plate. He was swinging at everything and most times coming up empty. It was clearly evident that he was being overmatched in October, his World Series line was abysmal with it coming up at .150/.143/.150 and an OPS of .293. He struck out 6 times compared to the 3 times he got on base and never once drew a walk, which he only did once in the Mets four game sweep of the Cubs. I like Cespedes, I don't like him enough to pay him enough to push my team over the Luxury Tax. |

Copy and paste game is real ^
Nah not this season, and maybe not even in the next 2 seasons.
Thinking that the talks are going still about it and considering the price is dropping on him, I wouldn't be surprised with it happening, even though it is unlikely.

He has the power to rule over all sports. |

he is vastly overrated for having one good season (4 years ago)

@Short
Actually that was all off the top of my head, only referencing BB-Ref for the numbers. I actually enjoy discussing Baseball statistics, its the only math related topic I can actually get interested in. |

@pw
I don't believe it at all considering you're a "Mets fan"

What do you expect him to be then? |

I can see why you think I'm a bandwagon fan, as only since maybe July of this past year its been cool to say your a Mets fan, But I actually lived in Flushing in the Elechester area for almost 10 years which was about 20 minutes from Shea Stadium (now Citi Field) is, I actually went to quite a few Met games, Usually up towards the very top part of the stadium, namely mid-season games against the Pirates and other teams that weren't contending that year seeing as they were the cheaper tickets. I was always a fan of Rey Ordonez even though he really wasn't that great a player, it was just he was the first player I remember seeing. |

>taking world series stats into consideration
>taking a crap small sample size into consideration |

I know small sample size, but it does bring into question how he performs on the big stage in the big game situation. Cespedes is a player who is very streaky, we may never see anything like how he performed after his trade to New York. But as I said earlier, once the pitchers found him out and how to pitch him around Mid-September, you noticed how often he struck out. I know he's a guy who can change the momentum of a game with a swing of the bat, but if that HR comes during a streak where he's 0-20 with 15 K's, which are you gonna value more? |

peter angelos (orioles owner for the people that don't know) said he's gonna spend money this offseason. if he spends it on cespedes (he never spends money, he's literally one of the cheapest, if not the cheapest, owners in baseball), i'll hate him forever (already do). the orioles are one of the two "front runners" for him apparently, the white sox are the other one.
cespedes is good, he's not great. he's also a right handed batter which would make no sense in the orioles line up. |
